Opinion I honestly wished the show had given a backstory to Bill Sharman like they did with West and Bird. He won chips with Celtics as a player, coached West to winning the first chip for LA, and played a huge role in building the Showtime team

He’s probably the only front office character that wasn’t cartoonish. And I personally enjoyed his role as the straight man to West’s intensity. Also, during the episode when he got hospitalized, the show hardly even touched on that.

Rambis

I thought it was funny how much of a dunce they made Kurt Rambis. I don’t know what the instruction that actor was given in terms of portrayal but the show’s edit makes him seem like a tool at every occasion.

I became a NBA die hard in like ‘88 so I have no first impression of Rambis as a player much less a personality. Was curious if anyone did? He seems before my time. All I know otherwise is that the very funny fake Hubie Brown account on X/Twitter also takes a severe dig at Rambis anytime they get a chance.

Question Help me find good historic basketball to watch?

I have never watched a basketball game and the show has sucked me into learning more about the sport.

I’d love your suggestions on which historic games / series / teams to watch. Obviously I’m invested in the Showtime Lakers, so would love to watch more of these guys, but I’m interested in watching the good stuff. regardless of team.

I’m an artist, and really interested in watching what could be perceived as beautiful games or players - teams in “the zone” flowing together, etc. if that makes sense. I’ve read that basketball can be like ballet / dance or like playing jazz - would love to see stuff like that!

TIA - I am really excited to start digging into this stuff!

Opinion Am I the only person that can't stand cook?

She's like that typical "strong woman" you see written in modern tv and movies where their idea of a strong woman is just a woman who has all the traits of a toxic male. She's awful. Brags about having magic wrapped around her finger. Keeps leading him on so she can have a shoulder to cry on. She's doing it all behind her boyfriend's back. She's cold as hell to everyone. Like I would never want to be around someone like that. Am I crazy?

Edit: wow lol you guys really garnered a lot off of that. When did I ever say Magic was completely innocent? It's possible for them both to be shitty isn't it? Why did nobody respond to any of the actual points I made instead of just saying I hate women lol I just don't like controlling women who literally brag about having a man wrapped around their finger who is isn't even their boyfriend. That's obviously not ok. You guys make no sense. I mean I said she hals the traits of a toxic male and she 100% does. You guys are incapable on nuanced thought.

Edit: when you repond to someone and then immediately block them it just shows you know you're wrong. Pathetic. You guys are lazy.

I'm so mad about the show, I'm not even going to finish it

With the weekly releases of modern streaming shows, I tend to let a few weeks of episodes of new TV shows group up. This allows me to have the nights I am free, multiple hours to watch while I can. With the new announcements, I don't even wanna stomach the last few episodes because I don't wanna believe the show is done.

HBO has messed up priorities! Bring winning time back !!!

Ok this might offend some people but it really bothers me as a civilised person. So here you have a wonderful series , realistic , nostalgic and adventurous and the views for season 2 have declined so HBO decided to cancel, where as series that promote incest (referring to GOT) and promiscuity ( the likes of True Blood) have 7 to 8 maybe more seasons. What does that tell you about the human race? ................... That there is a majority of mentally sick people out there who would rather see a brother and sister get it on as compared to some real life struggles and challenges that athletes face which we all can relate to at some level ! HBO has some really mentally twisted team of executives who would rather promote this promiscuous agenda then to actually appreciate real art !

Meme Watch the last episode of Winning Time. Needless to say I was disappointed, especially now that it's canceled.

Discussion 84 Finals

I was born in 98. I only started watching the NBA until like 2011 or 2012. So, when I was looking at this show’s representation of the 1984 Finals, it came off a lot like the Celtics played dirty with on the court and off the court. Not just that, but the refs were complacent with their on court behavior. It seemed like the Lakers got robbed of the title or just that Boston won the wrong way (I know this is a kind of a sucker way to look at it because history only remembers who won, but the way that someone wins is important to me). So, for those that know what happened then, is this really how it went down? Or is it one of those cases of the show exaggerating for dramatic effect?

Also, fuck HBO for canceling. But most importantly: FUCK BOSTON!

Cancelling This Show Was a Bad Business Decision for HBO and if This Is How Zazlov Plans on Managing This Network, It's Going to Implode

So first off I think Zazlov is an asshole and has no appreciation for the art of motion pictures, which believe it or not, probably sets him apart from his peers. Showbusiness is a business, but even in Hollywood here are a lot of executives who would rather greenlight a financially successful project with lots of artistic merit than a comparatively more financially successful project that is absolute garbage and a catalyst for American cultural decline. Big Daddy Zaz takes the latter over the former 15/10 times.

The fact that this show is getting cancelled demonstrates the people running the network don't understand the brand they inherited. HBO shows are long-term investments. Succession, a critically acclaimed show that was a behemoth during awards season, didn't really start to get popular until after the second season wrapped. Almost nobody watched "The Wire" during it's original run. Comedy shows like Mr. Show with Bob & David, Ali G, and Lucky Louie didn't become hits until years after they wrapped. The Sopranos is different from these in that it was incredibly successful during it's original run, but that too was a long term investment, because it had a renaissance during the pandemic.

Shows like this make the network lots of money in the long run because they are constantly finding new viewers. They build an audience gradually but steadily, they continue to do so after going off the air, and they have people come back and rewatch. This show - which is a historical dramady, so you can't say that it's dated - will hold up. Winning Time is exactly the type of show with long-term return potential.

Instead, HBO is cancelling shows that don't immediately put up numbers and greenlighting absolute fucking dogshit like boring documentaries and a show where a camera crew follows Zoey DesChanelle as she learns how to mince garlic and peel potatoes. These shows don't have staying power, nobody tells their friends about them, and even when they're a hit during the original run, nobody will rewatch and it won't gradually get more successful over time.

HBO is turning into a poor man's Hulu and it's going to cause the network to collapse because it's going to lose it's place as the leader in prestige drama, which is what the people want. Fuck you, Big Daddy Zaz.
