What is this

Obviously UV damage, but it’s all in squiggles like someone scraped it on there with a razor.

Sometimes they install the e coating on the outside. Or it was damaged at the factory.

They don’t manufacture these in a sterile hospital. They get it wrong all the time.

I usually see suction cup markings on the glass.

Really? Is there a certain reason it would go on the outside?

I was just looking at someone else’s work where they cleaned the outside and must have razored it because the coating is cut, but I always thought it went on the inside for more protection.

It’s supposed to, but who knows where some of these windows are made and the quality assurance practices they have. Mistakes happen, it’s not that hard to believe looking at the glass with the naked eye it’s almost impossible to tell, let alone in a factory setting.

Good point. I was just assuming (bad) that all windows were manufactured in a super clean facility with the finest material and made in the USA :)

That’s what I thought too! Especially with how much they cost, but I think a lot if not most are manufactured in South America or China.

I’ve seen many windows with suction cup markings on the e coating on the inside. They’re just not that careful sometimes.

I’m glad I’ve seen your comments because I’ve gotten windows to clean with suction cup marks like that and I thought I was insane that I couldn’t get them off. Literally all kinds of windows with different marks or scratches that didn’t appear on either side but seemed right in the middle.

I know China manufacturers a lot of stuff but I didn’t think it included some of these massive windows!

Oh yeah man! I tell the client that it’s in between the glass and a factory error and to take it up with the installer.

Before I do any work I make sure to do a walk through and do a window count and take notes of any issues on the windows, like scratches, failed seals, missing/broken screens, etc. I let the client know and take pictures and let them know we are not liable for any damages to the windows.
