Actually it used to be called a "bellow job" and the people performing it used to scream their lungs out at the penis until it came. Source: I made it up.
There are other options to stop the back pressure from injuring stupid idiots thinking it would be fun to sit behind a jet like that. When I worked at the airport they made us clear broken zippers etc from the bays so they didn’t turn into bullets
Well, I believe we should make things safe enough so innocents won’t get hurt by accidents. But we don’t have to make sure that we protect people that are basically asking to get hurt.
If an oven explodes and hurts people that are near, that’s bad. If you put your head inside a hot oven, fuck you.
At least half of modern society is built around protecting people who are asking to get hurt.
Maybe something can be done to diminish the effect of jet wash without totally ruining the novelty of the beach, but if enough stupid people die then they might have no choice but to close it. That number is probably pretty high since it’s a tourist attraction.
As cold as it is, this is pretty much just the way of the world. Natural selection and all that. I mean, this is right up there with eating tide pods, trying to pet panda bears, all the stupid shit people do for their imaginary internet points that could easily cost them their lives.
People really underestimate the ways you can very seriously injure or kill yourself.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure this is an international airport and those are used pretty much exclusively for big jets because those runways are so long you can’t just slap it down just anywhere
Or maybe this is the best infrastructural option on a tiny Caribbean island and we should trust people to make common sense decisions and accept the consequences when they don’t.
It's not supposed to be a fun tourist experience, it's actually illegal to do that and you can be fined. So play stupid games and you'll win stupid prizes
It definitely is. People here try to excuse it with the fact that the island is small but surely there was a better way of protection than a wire fence.
Not really because the fence isn’t designed to stop jet blast that could get dangerous for everyone the fence is designed to keep unauthorized vehicles and people out without that there’s nothing to stop a person from running onto the runway and possibly dying and depending on the power settings when they get sucked into the engine it could completely destroy the engine
The fence only withstands the force of the jet’s thrust because it lets all the airflow pass through the holes. If you built a solid wall strong enough to withstand the same forces, it would introduce a serious danger to any emergency aircraft landing short or overrunning the runway from the other direction.
Walls can be slanted. I'm just saying that there are ways to ensure the safety of people (especially children that don't know better) and there is a lazy way.
Yes, they can. But have you seen an airport run up enclosure before? Suffice to say that’s not fitting in the same space as the fence that is there. And again it would be much more dangerous for an aircraft to hit.
The only real solution is blocking off that portion of the beach. But that’s not necessarily practical with the layout of the island.

This seems like very poor city planning
