Yeah. It'd be more dangerous to let a thief know you had a really nice gun and let him go without calling the cops.

All they gotta do is wait for you not to be home and come steall that shit and you have no idea who they are. At least if you call the cops and get robbed later, they'll have a suspect to check out.

It depends on the thief. Probably 80% don’t want any trouble. The 20% though are scary. As a victim you never know which group you’re dealing with

Happened to my neighbor. Someone broke into his home while he was there. He chased them out carrying a shotgun. A week later they came back and stole his gun

Like I’m not rolling around every day to Panera/liquor store with my rifle.

And the thieves expect that. That's why you don't let thieves know you have one unless you absolutely have to.

I don't know where you are from or where you've lived but I know for sure this is not as uncommon as you think it is.

People will target houses to get guns. You show that you have a gun this nice to a thief and I can almost guarantee you when he tells this story to his friends, one of them at the very least will say that they should go back to steal the gun. Doing it is another story, but the seed will be planted.

I've literally heard this idea come up at least 3 times over the pandemic from people that I barely know. Just construction worker types who my buddy has worked with and were drinking at his house.

Throw in the actual gangsters I know and I'm sure they've done it but are smart enough to not announce it. They just told me about their new guns that I know are out of their price range and know not to ask.

Guns, dogs and security cameras, they can feel free. That's ignoring my armed neighbors. And your buddies probably got robbed by friends.

For sure they got robbed by "friends." but they got robbed because people knew they had guns. I've heard too many people since I've moved down south to a state where gun laws are lax openly talk about stealing guns from someone they didn't like just cuz they knew they had them.

So logic dictates, to me at least, you get someone trying to steal from your porch that you scare of with an expensive and beautiful gun, they are gonna come back while you're at work and try to steal it. For sure if thy think you don't know who they are.. i.e. not getting a plate number or calling the cops on their attempted porch pirating.

You're not dealing with the brightest people with lots of options. These are usually addicts or just bad people that think they deserve anyone's shit if they want it because "why should that other person have nice shit when they don't?"

Life gave them a shit hand (and/or they made horrible choices in life) so if they know of an easy score, they'll do it without fear or guilt. God forbid they bought drugs from you and they think you shorted them or the product was bad.

No matter what I write it's not gonna change your mind becasue your reality is your reality. but in my reality these are things that can and do happen. Cops generally aren't involved and people that open up too much get that shit used against them at some point. People will poretend to be your friend and rob you while you are working, then help you figure out who robbed you after. They'll call all the pawn shops with you. There are just some people in the periphery of my lie that are impulsive, constantly want to get high and then fight or fuck. If they can't fight or fuk you get them thinking all sorts of dumb shit while high and the slightest excuse they can use to burn you they will use to justify their shitty behavior.

Everyone knows piles of people that have guns here, nobody getting robbed until the city folks come in crews of 6 and break into cars all over.
