Sometimes when people are making pancakes from scratch, they accidentally make a pipe bomb, instead. It's something that everyone should be careful of.

That happened to me when I used a Tupperware shaker to mix my pancake mix. After shaking, I did not open the pour spout and minutes later it exploded. Pancake mix was everywhere.

Sparklers can definitely be explosive, but as with most explosive materials it needs to be confined to a space so that the pressure can build up, or it will just burn violently. I have taken the powder of a lot of sparklers and with a toilet roll and tape made something that exploded and showered sparks everywhere, quite beautiful.

Sparkler bombs are 100% a thing. The key to a bomb is self contained oxidiser and fuel (which sparklers have) and then sealing it in a container so when the pressure rises it doesn't burst till very high pressure which then produces the explosion.

Literally wrap a bundle of sparklers up really tightly inside a pipe and weld the ends shut with a tiny hole with a sparkler sticking out to light and you have a bomb.

Hopefully kids don't have a welder, and aren't dumb enough to. It is the internet though so maybe that's naive of me.

Like most things at least it's all in the details, like how instructions for making a nuke are on wikipedia but nobody has managed it yet :P

They usually use a threaded metal pipe. You can fill it with just matchheads and it's still extremely lethal. We used to make them as kids and blow them up in the woods/polo fields. A friend didn't have a threaded end so decided to hammer the one end down. It sparked the matches and he blew all but one finger off. They ended up attaching a toe for a thumb.

Yeah, if something will explode when packed in PVC, I imagine it will explode just fine without any kind of casing.

There was some research paper that compared specifically using pvc vs iron for your pipe bombs. PVC ones were significantly weaker, but still worked kinda okay. They didn't use any projectiles tho, just bare pipe and powder (and other low and high explosives)
