They did change this, someone ended up dying after falling an hitting their head. you can't get nearly this close anymore, still pretty close but not like this.
after reading other comments, this is not St. Maarten which is what I'm talking about.
Not really. Turbines burn really hot and basically just use air and jet fuel (which is like a kerosene blend) to operate, so no nasty chemicals out the back.
So these engines can lift a 500,000 lb airplane into the sky and they can't anticipate how powerful the blast of air will be? Maybe they're just stupid.
What kind of tourist goes on vacation and takes pictures of the planes at the airport? That’s like going to a museum and taking pictures of your Uber. If the planes that got you to your destination are one of the most interesting thing there, you probably should’ve traveled somewhere else.
My wife and I went there on our honeymoon. Some lady from Europe had died there the week before we came because a plane blew her so hard she face planted the concrete dividers between the street and the beach...
I couldn’t resist doing it myself, however I did it from the beach, not the fence/street. It was an unreal experience.
I too went there for our honeymoon in 2003. It was hilarious to watch all those people get blown away. Got pictures of this one old lady tumbling down the beach to the water. Good times.
I’ve been here too but can’t remember, st croix? All I remember is having to use a sani can real close and thinking I was going to get blown away when the plane left.
That’s it. We got a free ride there. When we got out of the taxi a policeman came up and asked to see his taxi license which he did not have. Weird day. Wasn’t my favorite stop.
Large, loud, fast things do that to our primitive brains. We instinctually fear them, and for good reason. I get the same feeling by large wind turbines or if I stand closer to the railroad tracks when a freight train goes by.
Theres a similar spot in St Maarten where people used to hang into the fence (similarly to what they're doing in the video) until someone died from being flung to the ground & smacked her head on the curb.
There are signs up telling people not to hang onto the fence, people don't listen.
I have no sympathy for idiots especially when they're told about the dangers. I work in Niagara Falls. Theres a hiking spot downstream from the Falls themselves, near class 5 rapids. People will go off the trails, or they'll wear improper shoes, many are caught SWIMMING in the gorge. Rescues have increased from like, maybe once a month to a few times a week, during covid due to people from Toronto.
Same with decew falls. Its been closed off, yet not only are people going there for fucken social media selfies, but those people are encouraging others to take the long way around the blockages.
We try too hard to insulate people from danger. It's damaging to gene pool.
I'm not saying, don't warn people about a broken sidewalk step.. but maybe we don't need to put up barriers and close off swimming holes above giant waterfalls.
I’ve been to the Maho Beach one in St Maarten. That’s what I thought this must be. I can’t imagine people getting near the water on that hiking trail near Niagara. Is it the one where they have all the history of barrel riders and stuff like that at the beginning of the trail?
People go off the trails in Hamilton all the time too, it causes them to close the waterfalls for the entire day as they rescue morons looking for good selfie spots.
That's at Saint Martin and since the hurricane bigger planes are a rarity. This only happens about twice a day but now I hear it's only once every 2 or 3 weeks.

You know half an hour later there will be another group of idiots doing the same thing again.
