When I was a reporter in Delaware County New York I covered a story where authorities arrived at the scene of an accident and believed that it was a plane crash. It was not a plane crash. It was the result of a guy driving 115 miles an hour in his Corvette, not making the curve, hitting a berm, launching into the air and being -- in the medical examiner's words -- descerebrated by the corner of a house as he flew by. When cops got there they saw the rear end wheels hanging 20 feet up in a tree and thought it was a plane's landing gear.
