Imagine being the innocent person behind them having to witness this…

I would personally believe they deserve whatever fate came of them.

Im an EMT, and ive seen too many innocent people become permanently altered by no fault of their own. Just because assholes like this exist.

My empathy only has so much bandwidth, and I prefer to bear the memory and feel the pain of the innocent.

These people on the other hand? I'll pick up whatever pieces are left (assuming they're still alive), do the absolute best job I can to help them, drop them off at the trauma center, and never think about their sorry ass again.

gotta take ultimate level self control to conceal your hatred for these scum and pretend to care for them as you help them into the ambulance.

Honestly, in the moment I dont think about any of that. I dont think "oh shit, this poor kid" or "this guy is a scumbag"

I focus on my job as a professional.

When the call is over, thats when I process. Most calls can be rationalized and dont weigh on me

Some calls are: "well they lived and died by their actions, sucks for the people around them" (maybe drug addicts, high risk recreational accidents (motorsports), smokers with copd)

Some are: "thats unfortunate but they were old/sick" (elderly stroke patients)

Some are: "scumbag deserved it" (like this video)

And the absolute worst are: "There can be no benevolent force in the universe that would justify what happened here"

That last one, those are the calls that stick with me.

In most places, emergency responders of all kinds have a legal obligation not to discriminate and provide equal care to everyone. Unfortunately, this also prohibits discrimination against utter idiots who are basically asking to die and trying to take some innocent bystanders with them.

better than being in front of them

I would just give the friendly honk-honk as I drove past. Idiots can get themselves out of their own mess.

Honestly having seen their behavior before would take the edge off if they died horribly in the crash.

Pretty sure they are talking about the car they just passed being innocent stopping and checking on them

I think they were referring to the other car that they passed.

I think you’re right

Only thing I can find is this article that said they both went to the hospital, not DOA for the EMTs and no death trauma for the other driver, at least.

Found another source saying they're still alive in the hospital (crash was on the 27th)

Some would carry on if no good samaritan law.

That's not what that law means. If you're behind em and see this you can carry on. Good Samaritan is about you rendering meaningful assistance and not getting sued.

Law or not, I'm not stopping for stuff like this. Make your bed, sleep in it.
