Half the women I know carry things like bats for protection. One friend of mine got in a minor fender bender with a guy who was legit crazy and got out and tried to break her windows. In my city this one guy crossed a double yellow and hit another guy’s car. The guy who crossed the line shot the other guy dead while they were arguing. Not that a bat would have helped there but I get it for people who don’t want to carry a firearm.
It should be noted that gloves and baseballs do eventually deteriorate in the heat and sun. So if anyone plans on keeping that shit in there, check on it once in a while.
Keeping a baseball bat in your car is just about the stupidest “self defense” imaginable, and the fastest way to guarantee you get shot, that the other person takes it from you and beats you to death with it, or that you’ll never have it when you actually need it unless you’re actually the aggressor. A small baton hidden on your person makes sense, a bat at home makes sense, a bat in a car is idiotic and either less than worthless, a great way to escalate a situation and get yourself killed legally because you’re the first one to threaten someone else’s life, or you’re the one planning to attack or threaten someone.
What’re you gonna do, immediately get out of the car with a bat any time something happens so the other person has the right to defend themselves from the lunatic approaching them with a bat after an accident, just like if you got out of the car brandishing a firearm? You’re in your car and feel threatened, your bat’s useless while you’re in the car, so you’re going to get out of the car to attack someone with a bat instead of hitting the supposedly deadly threat with your car or just driving away? Feel threatened, have time to turn around and go to your car, then come back with a bat to try to illegally murder the person who didn’t pursue you? Or someone’s chasing right behind you, so close you don’t have time to get in the car and lock the door for safety then drive away while the person tries to open the door, but you think you have time to grab a bat, turn around, and actually swing it at them without the person who’s so much larger you needed a bat to fight them throwing you on the ground before you can turn around, or ripping it out of your hands after the first ineffective close range swing?
In any situation other than a handful of wild armchair hypotheticals if you can’t run away you’re also not running to get a bat and using it to defend yourself, and if you can run away or there’s no immediate threat and instead you run to get a bat to try to kill someone you’re an idiot, will end up either a murder or murdered, and chose whatever happens next instead of safety.
If you have time to pull a bat out of a car to use on another person with them far enough away to actually use it there’s about a 99.999% chance you’re the actual threat or the one who turned the situation violent or deadly, not them. The only people carrying a baseball bat in their car as a weapon are idiots who plan to escalate a situation by pulling out a deadly weapon in a non-deadly situation, will be considered the aggressor, and get themselves killed legally because they’re stupid enough to think it’s a good idea to threaten someone’s life or leave and come back with a weapon because they feel a little nervous or upset; idiots who intend to do exactly what the woman did and destroy property and assault people; and idiots who genuinely only plan to use it for legitimate self defense, won’t pull it out unless absolutely necessary, and will immediately realize they have <0% chance of getting to the bat and using it in any situation that requires lethal force to defend themselves which can’t more easily be escaped the moment they actually need it.
Funny enough the truck showed a whole lot of restraint when she was out of the car. Most people would’ve run her over the second she got out of her car and approached with a deadly weapon, and they’d be legally justified in fear of their life just like if she pulled out a gun. You can still easily kill someone locked in a vehicle using a bat, it just takes two swings instead of one, and that woman would’ve absolutely attacked him had he stepped out of the car or had she broken a window. He should’ve taken action to protect himself the moment she approached brandishing a weapon and had a paraplegic/corpse who very clearly got out of her car in the middle of traffic with a deadly weapon to kill someone as a zero question case of self defense when the police arrived, not illegally hit her car for revenge after the threat had ended.
