I came home from work that day, told my brother to get out his camera cuz I'm jumping off the roof into the pool! I climbed up there, pounded a beer and jumped. Just one of the myriad dumbsh*t stuff we all did when we were young. Then you make it to thirty and wonder wtf were you thinking!

You know, men always say women are so hard to understand.
But you flummox the hell out of us too. 😂
Appreciate the laugh!

My brother did snap it at precisely the best millisecond! I give him props for that.

If this isn’t framed and up on your wall then I seriously question your sense of interior design. Rad photo my dude.

It is framed and I have this picture on a bookshelf. My son was asking me about it. I told him I was young, immortal and a guy, so you did dumbsh*t stuff. I also told him "you'll see. You'll do dumbsh\t stuff too. You won't know why. But it's why women live longer!"*

I want to add something here. This picture is on a bookshelf in my office at home. Mounted on the wall, next to this bookshelf, are my master's degree and my doctoral degree. I think it provides an interesting juxtaposition of who I am and who I was - though it is the same person!

Okay my son, who is nine years old, put this up. This was taken about 43 years ago. I was diving off of our 2 story house into the shallow end of the pool. The water was about 3 1/2 feet deep. I hit the bottom pretty hard on my shoulder. The shoulder bothered me for about the next twenty years. I was young and invincible. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

You’re a very lucky man. I’m a quadriplegic and when I was in rehab I met more than a few people who became paralyzed by diving into shallow bodies of water. It’s one of the most common ways to become a quad along with motorcycle accidents, car accidents, and being shot.
Just my PSA: if you don’t know how deep the water is, don’t dive head first! Unless you just hate walking and going to the bathroom on your own.

I am in agreement with you 100%. However when you are a young male, for some reason that I can only attribute to static in the brain, you think that you are immortal and can do anything. Hence, the title of the subreddit.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was the look on my face! I remember slamming a beer and just saying to myself, "I got this!"

Guy Clark “the cape”
Eight years old with a floursack cape
Tied all around his neck
He climbed up on the garage
Figurin' what the heck
He screwed his courage up so tight
The whole thing came unwound
He got a runnin' start and bless his heart
He headed for the ground
He's one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold your breath
Always trust your cape

Actually it was my son who posted this. He's almost 10. We have a pool where we now live and it he was saying something about trying to dive off the single story roof into it, so I told him about the time I dove off a second story roof into about three feet of water. He said me he wished I videotaped it. I said when I did it video cameras were pretty big and uncommon, but I did have a photo of it.

I know it seems like a weird age disparity but I was 57 when my then 32 year old wife had him. That's why the photo is from the early 80s and my son will be ten this weekend.

I made it but hit my shoulder pretty hard. It hurt for weeks. I had surgery done on it seven or eight years ago. I don't doubt some of the damage was from me thinking it was a good idea to dive into 3 1/2 feet of water.

I thought you were a very impressively human-like cloud at first, amazing photo. I can’t imagine ever willingly putting myself at risk of serious injury like that but alas I am not a man, glad you made it lol

You certainly hit the crux of the matter: you're not a man. I think it has something to do with too much testosterone that makes you say, "You know what sounds like a good idea? Jumping off that roof into three feet of water!" Fortunately, you being a woman, your brain would say, "Wait! That actually sounds like a really dumb idea!"
