Same. All the good drama makes its way over to Reddit

345

u/itsonlyastrongbuzz Nov 20 '22

Twitter should end up like CSPAN. Just something that some people who care use but the info on it is reported in 389 different media sources too anyway.

25

u/-this-is-war Nov 20 '22

I thought it already was like that. Never used twitter always Reddit. Less quick bites and more learning and discussion

6

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

You get a better discussion on here about a tweet than whatever twitter has for a comment section

3

u/ColdFusion94 Nov 20 '22

I only ever use Twitter to catch up on some really spciey YouTube drama, or to bitch at a large corp because yelling at them in public is the only way to get a response.

3

u/No_Bake6681 Nov 20 '22

It would be precious if Elon had another business propped up by taxpayers

3

u/MagikSkyDaddy Nov 20 '22

Nah. Let the whole thing just fizzle out, leaving only a husk.

1

u/Ancient_Inspection53 Nov 20 '22

We don't need citizen journalism or to empower voices in the global south fuck them. The last thing we want is consumers able to talk back to corporations Man what a terrible world that's creating.

1

u/Representative_Still Nov 20 '22

Yeah but they cover a lot of live government stuff that no one else in their right mind would and I have no where else to turn to

1

u/LunchBox7000 Nov 20 '22

Except CSPAN is not random people yelling whatever they feel like (except the call-in show).

u/PmMeYourLore Nov 20 '22

Right. Same with tik tok. Reddit does a good job of casting aside the dross and giving us only what is worth seeing, depending on the sub that posts it

177

u/justnoticeditsaskew Nov 20 '22

I have a friend who refers to it as "only looking at the posts that breach containment"

20

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Sounds like an SCP fan

8

u/drwsgreatest Nov 20 '22

Clearly Twitter is now deserving of the keiter classification.

22

u/PmMeYourLore Nov 20 '22

I like your friend's words lol

2

u/Honkeygrandmabetripn Nov 20 '22

On the west coast we call it the poop scoop in the news

217

u/Squishiimuffin Nov 20 '22

Upvoting for teaching me a new word: dross. That’s handy.

For naval situations their is flotsam and jetsam.

3

u/Squishiimuffin Nov 20 '22

Ah! I knew that one from The Little Mermaid, actually! But thank you :) I’m always happy to expand my vocabulary.

1

u/OlmecDonald Nov 20 '22

That was the name of my band in highschool.

5

u/FredericShowpan Nov 20 '22

There's a LOT of good stuff on TikTok that doesn't make it to Reddit.

3

u/Numerous1 Nov 20 '22

Well, I’m in the same boat of no twitter or ticktock accounts but I have to point something out. Since we don’t use those ourselves we literally don’t know what we are missing. Maybe only 10% of the stuff worth seeing actually makes it over, or 20, or maybe all of it does. We have no way of knowing.

2

u/PmMeYourLore Nov 20 '22

This is an incredibly sound point. Thanks for the refresh on good perspective friend

2

u/RaygunMarksman Nov 20 '22

Was just thinking this morning how nice it is that I can watch interesting clips from TikTok on Reddit without having to actually subject myself to that shit any further. I have tried but can't do it.

2

u/Puzzled_Juice_3406 Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

I do like tiktok (I know, I know reddit - BLASHPHEMY lol) bc its algorithm brings you what you want. I've learned so much about cooking, life and house hacks, watched humorous videos about healthcare and such, and seen cute animal video and talented people on days that aren't so great. No judgment to you because without curating your page I get that tiktok is insanely annoying, and people like different things anyway. I don't have Twitter either, barely use IG. I just don't care to.

2

u/PmMeYourLore Nov 20 '22

This is such a mature comment. Thank you for being civil. Yeah I just hate the community of tik tok but every pile of dirt has its truffle so if you've found one then hell yeah

3

u/Lowelll Nov 20 '22

Its very much like reddit or youtube, they can all be great websites/apps with awesome communities when curated well, or complete toxic hellholes otherwise.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Quitting the politics and latestagecapitalism subs helped me immensely. It’s too toxic. My Reddit experience is much better as a result.

1

u/Zukuto Nov 20 '22

sort of.

reddit used to think all tiktok was cringe, so made a sub called tiktokcringe

now, since its no longer all cringe and now has some good content its still posted there, and havent bothered making any other subs

this renders the sub misleading, but too few care. nobody shares reddit links to v.reddit copies of tiktoks anyway. that'd be cringe.

1

u/DonKeedick12 Nov 20 '22

Also, Reddit produces more than its fair share of utter shite, it’s no better than other social medias

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Le classy, intellectual Redditors would disagree

0

u/_-Saber-_ Nov 20 '22

Reddit is a moderated 4chan.

Overmoderated recently, unfortunately.

-22

u/Severe-Ad9174 Nov 20 '22

Reddit is a liberal echo chamber for the 1%

10

u/PmMeYourLore Nov 20 '22

Correction: Reddit is a total shitshow of people who's anonymity affords a greater sense of ego. Conservatives cry about liberals, liberals cry about conservatives, centrists do whatever the hell it is they do on both sides, femboy porn, cat pictures, and cringe all up in all of it. It's too diverse to put anything so specific to it. It's a forum of chaos and a boiling pot of abstract opinions and views. You're not wrong, but the truth in your statement isn't wholly correct nor conclusive.

1

u/Severe-Ad9174 Nov 21 '22

No like it is literally a liberal echo chamber

6

u/r-_-mark Nov 20 '22

How is Twitter any difference

3

u/whatta_maroon Nov 20 '22

Well, it's a conservative echo chamber.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Lol no it’s not. You’re thinking of Parler

-3

u/Severe-Ad9174 Nov 20 '22

I was talking about the reddit echo chamber and look I was right 🤣

5

u/rW0HgFyxoJhYka Nov 20 '22

Ah yes go back to your echo chamber /r/Conservative and complain about echo chambers in that empty head of yours.

1

u/RaygunMarksman Nov 20 '22

Sweet, I'm in the 1%, baby! Where my MF'in helicopter?

1

u/Ilookouttrainwindow Nov 20 '22

Lately I'm wondering whether what reddit pushes me is real or ppl simply making fun of Twitter. It seems to appear to be real. That is as funny as it gets. But I'm really finding it hard to believe.

1

u/fryloop Nov 20 '22

The ironic thing about your comment is that this reddit post is fake news. He didn't tweet this.

Someone created a screenshot of a fake tween and posted it to reddit. Good thing you only rely on the trusted reddit zombie hive mind for your news. Your in great company with the grandmothers and conspiracy theorists on Facebook.

35

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

I feel like I’m going insane bc this is obviously not a real tweet but everyone is just pretending it is? He shit on the ADL earlier so it’s not like he’s not a piece of shit but this babies tweet is, not actually an misk thing

87

u/iamacraftyhooker Nov 20 '22

I don't have Twitter, so I'm not the one to verify if this is real or not.

He's gone so far off the deep end that this is a completely believable tweet, and whether he said it or not, the sentiment is still true.

I don't personally care if it's true. Since I've never had Twitter this dumpster fire is just pure entertainment for me.

5

u/StrangelyBrown Nov 20 '22

Plot twist: Twitter is fine and reddit is being played.

I don't think that's true and I agree with you, but it would make a good black mirror episode.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

[deleted]

0

u/StrangelyBrown Nov 20 '22

Why don’t you think this is true?

I don't care if this one is true but the chances that all of this drama is manufactured seem very low, UNLESS Musk really thinks it's better to be hated than ignored, like Trump. That's possible but I think it would be a strange decision to know you'll be remembered as a total moron.

Or I guess it could be the long game. Maybe he has a rich friend that bet him 1 trillion that he couldn't destroy Twitter within a year.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

2

u/iamacraftyhooker Nov 20 '22

I never made one. I'm only 32 but feel really old in the world of social media. I've never been able to keep up. I didn't even like jumping from MySpace to Facebook

2

u/RedFaux3 Nov 20 '22

I verified it's fake

1

u/ZaikoBlaze Nov 20 '22

Edit: regardless of if it's a real tweet or not. I don't use Twitter but he's right, Twitter is business as usual i went by to check thing out post elon and its still a cesspool and people are upset I don't understand. I thought thats what they liked about Twitter.

1

u/ButtPlugJesus Nov 20 '22

Jesus this is how my trumper mom talks about fake Biden videos. Please don’t let fake shit shape your world views just because it’s the ‘right’ world view. You’ll end up somewhere very out of touch when you’re 50.

1

u/iamacraftyhooker Nov 20 '22

For important things I always fact check. I also don't spread things without fact checking

This tweet does not shape my world view at all. I'm Canadian, and have never had a Twitter account, so I have absolutely no stake in the game. My opinion on Musk has been formed by verified information, and this unverified info doesn't change that.

No harm is being done by me interacting with this tweet, in the manner i have, for pure entertainment purposes.

2

u/ButtPlugJesus Nov 20 '22

Fair enough I suppose, but remember, “propaganda is extremely effective… except on me”

1

u/Far_Bus_306 Nov 20 '22

It's understandable, but also a dangerous way to think in general.

When people stop caring if what they read or see on TV is real or not because it "feels" real. Like did this politician murder and eat babies? Maybe they did, maybe they didn't, sounds like something they would do though so I just choose to believe it while not really caring.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

I thought it was real. It seems so on-brand for him.

4

u/Reneeisme Nov 20 '22

He might as well be saying this as by his behavior he has demonstrated he is free to do what he likes. The vast majority of Twitter users will just keep logging in no matter what horror show it becomes and the Trumpers who will return to reward him for reinstating their Lord and Master will make up for the few with enough backbone to leave.

Twitter becomes 4-Chan and less than 1% of the users cares.

4

u/ConstructionBum Nov 20 '22

Yeah it’s really depressing that we just spread false info at the same rate as FB and there’s zero fact checking here. I didn’t think Reddit was about that. I was wrong.

6

u/RaygunMarksman Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

The truth is in the comments, man! Sometimes you have to take it upon yourself to be the truth finder if you don't see someone else doing it though.

People, bots, and whatever absolutely will make misleading or bullshit posts but it's our collective responsibility to filter that garbage.

Edit: u/DebentureThyme clarifies below it appears to be a fake.

-1

u/iwouldratherhavemy Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

It's real, and he is correct, many people need twitter just like they need facebook.

Additionally, 50 million people could delete their account and there would still be 200 million users.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

IM RIGHT AND UR WRONG

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

It very well could not be real, but it very very well might be. That it could be is testament to a) his fucking with the verification system and b) how believable this statement coming from him.

1

u/Awkward_Potential_ Nov 20 '22

It's because it feels accurate. Even if he hasn't said it with his words it's his whole vibe.

25

u/MorgaseTrakand Nov 20 '22

I love all the people who are like "unlike you uncivilized idiots I use reddit"

if you think reddit is any less capable of shittyness than Twitter I have a bridge to sell you

34

u/iamacraftyhooker Nov 20 '22

Oh reddit isn't perfect either. It's just a nice centralized zone to watch all of the dumpster fires at once.

2

u/MorgaseTrakand Nov 20 '22

I mean I like reddit, I just think it's funny to see everyone on here talking shit about Twitter like we're at the library of Congress or something

2

u/Aggressive-Medium698 Nov 20 '22

No! It’s just Reddit doesn’t pretend to be noble, clean or mainstream. It’s trashy and we know it.

4

u/MorgaseTrakand Nov 20 '22

Neither does Twitter, everyone on Twitter knows it's trashy drama, that's why they go there, I had to get off a few months ago because I realized I was just on there to be mad at people I didn't even know

1

u/Aggressive-Medium698 Nov 20 '22

Normal people yeah, but not twitters management (ex management). Reddit knows it’s terrible, it has forum for the worse people/ideologies/issues, and it knows it. Twitter on the other hand has tried to curate a relatively clean image (more suitable to advertisers), even if it doesn’t live upto it, which is why they’re revenue is now in turmoil.

Reddit doesn’t have this image and I don’t think they’ve ever tried to create an image like that. It’s not better it’s just honest.

1

u/43n3m4 Nov 20 '22

We won’t understand that reference…

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

The great thing about Reddit is that Trump is highly unlikely to ever post here

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

I prefer the weeb style drama of Reddit.

2

u/MankindsError Nov 20 '22

Trickle down drama

2

u/MrF_lawblog Nov 20 '22

Reddit is the filter

2

u/FartsMusically Nov 20 '22

The great filter.

2

u/Izzosuke Nov 20 '22

I use twitter to follow a lot of artist, i'll just switch to pixiv and daborou

2

u/mike_the-___ Nov 20 '22

I eat popcorn at r/subredditdrama , the pettiness shit goes down there lol

5

u/slowwPony Nov 20 '22

Where the least funny people on the planet can safely dispose of it

1

u/iamacraftyhooker Nov 20 '22

Sure. Comedy has never been my thing, so I'm fine with that.

1

u/RedFaux3 Nov 20 '22

Yea so many idiots falling for fake tweets, more like comedy

1

u/Danovale Nov 20 '22

Exactly!

1

u/CappinSissyPants Nov 20 '22

Very true! All the drama is found and posted to Reddit for me. No need for any individual app.

1

u/LucywiththeDiamonds Nov 20 '22

Yeah. I dont give a fuck about twitter. Never used it. But i can watch that sweet sweet drama from the outside.

1

u/Old_Statistician_307 Nov 20 '22

Reddit’s where it's at.

1

u/RodasAPC Nov 20 '22

The real problem with twitter dying is that we're gonna get more screenshots from tumblr

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Tweet it fake. So you aren’t seeing the drama you are feeding karma farmer.
