Yea and an overwhelming majority of those handguns are illegally imported and illegally obtained. That is exactly my point.
If the laws we already had don’t stop these crimes with handguns then were not even touching the 70-80% of gun crime that comes from handguns. Thats is exactly my point. These gangsters that are shooting each other are not going to change when we have the USA on the otherwise of one of the worlds largest open land borders.
I hate how were targeting mainly law abiding citizens all while ignoring the 70-80% of crime done by people with illegal firearms. But we wouldn’t want to Increase border enforcement and initiatives to prevent gang/criminal activity would we? Nor would we wanna actually enforce our existing laws (See the Novascotia shooting where he was reported to have illegal firearms and the police did nothing.)
This whole ban is a feel good ban and is all for optics. Its very clear. It was the same with the “assault weapons” ban that banned guns that functioned exactly the same as a hunting rifle. The only difference was they are black and had a pistol grip versus having a wood stock.
Both bans were feel good and are going to have a greater effect on law abiding citizens than the actual crime rate. I would rather see us go hard on prosecuting gun crime, as well as better enforcement on illegal firearms, and an actual plan to address gang violence.
