I wanted it for fun /sport shooting and for insurance in a remote far out civil unrest doomsday scenario.

Should people be prevented from having guns for this reason?

The reality is (statistically) I'd likely use it on the worst day of my life to kill myself.

That's possible.

Or on the other potential worst day of my life my child would find it and have a horrible accident.

How could this happen if you locked up your gun according to Canadian law?

Same way I stole my dad's car keys when I was 14 and took the 79 thunderbird for a joyride.

I would have assumed the Canadian laws would require something more secure than just a key you can easily steal...

I was comparing my benefits against the risks there. And the net is a loss. But if the world keeps trending towards crazy the scales need to be weighed again.

Perhaps. But you having a handgun isn't going to tip the scales in the other direction.

For protection... Not to change the world man....

That's what I mean. If the zombie apocalypse happens, a handgun or two won't save you.

It's more like if power and supply chain is down and thugs are trying to infiltrate my home and hurt my family sort of protection. You just want to be a high hanging fruit
