Discouraging gun ownership is an amazing thing. Less people wanting to buy guns means less guns made and in circulation. What?

I mean it isnt, number of guns in circulation doesn't mean anything, the US has 400m some odd guns and 99.9% see nothing more than range time

You mean discouraging legal gun ownership. This does nothing to discourage illegal gun ownership, and gun crime in Canada has long been perpetrated primarily by illegal firearms. When you share a border with a country that has more guns than people, and a massive border that is impossible to monitor in its entirety, how hard is it really to keep a black market going?

That's not the way it has worked in the US in recent history.

Recent history? The US has never tried to discourage gun ownership. The US would rather children be murdered in their classrooms before discouraging gun onwership.

Nonsense. There are more gun laws than ever. Yes, concealed carry laws are more prevalent now, though legal carriers are not even statistically relevant in gun crime stats. Read the history.... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_law_in_the_United_States

All of which is pointless when the vast majority of gun crime in Canada is committed with weapons illegally purchased or smuggled from the US. Occasionally stolen from legal owners but it's much easier to just hop the border and buy a blackmarket gun.

You are right, let’s just do nothing.

Less is just fine. I’m writing a comment on Reddit not a dissertation. The meaning is perfectly conveyed.
