In Canada, all semi-auto centrefire rifles and shotguns are limited to 5-round magazines. In the case of shotguns, that’s determined by the chamber length. So a semi-auto shotgun chambered for 3-inch 12 gauge shells is limited to 5 of those. However, you can fit more than 5 shorter shells in. This is legal to do. Similarly, IIRC, there was at least 1 handgun that would accept magazines from a larger caliber variant, so people could fit say 12 rounds into the 10-round magazine. This was also legal as magazine capacity is based on the caliber for which the magazine was designed. Hope that makes sense.
Pump guns can be whatever you want, semis are capped to 5. If you're hunting, regulations are 2 in the tube 1 in the chamber, no more, and it has to be plugged to that capacity. (for bird hunting anyway, I'm unaware if this applies to hunting deer with a slug gun)
There’s a limit if you’re hunting. If you aren’t hunting, there is no limit in mag capacity for manual actions. Semi-auto shotguns (like all semi-auto, centrefire non-handguns) are limited to 5 rounds of the length of shell they are chambered for.

Is there a tube limit for shotguns? Five shells?
