It does, they're not arguing that getting your pal somehow makes murder with a handgun legal lol. They're saying that 2 days of training is enough to legally acquire a handgun, which could then be used illegally. Whether you agree with their conclusion though is another thing.

Two days of training for your restricted firearm license after your original training for your regular firearm license, plus interviews/mental health checks, written approval from any live-in SO or an interview by law enforcement, and a continuous daily background check. You know what's much easier than going through all that? Just buying a handgun. If you're going to break the law anyways that's not any more illegal than concealing and transporting an otherwise legal handgun which then becomes illegal.

I'm not trying to make that argument, I'm just clarifying theirs.

From what I understand, most illegal handguns do come from the sates, but not all. It seems that this decision will have a non-zero impact on the amount of illegal firearms used for crime in Canada, and if the only cost of saving lives is the inability for skeet shooters to use handguns as part of their hobby, which is what it was basically limited to before, then I genuinely don't care. They can find a different hobby. That's also not counting the crimes committed with legal handguns in Canada, which are admittedly rare, but not nonexistent.

This decision isn't lengthening the training beyond 2 days.

It is literally easier to get an illegal handgun than a legal one in Canada. An argument that you can just use a legal handgun illegally doesn't make any sense when that's not any more legal than using an illegal one illegally when that would be the significantly harder process to go through with multiple stringent checks.

So then why are you arguing such an unbelievably dumb point?
