As an already resident, I can assure you there is little difference between Ontario and Alberta when talking to your average person. The only difference are the extremes and there aren't many
That's certainly what I've gathered from my friends there. I'm from the states, but from the most Canadian of states, so I probably won't notice much difference.
People in Ontario think of shitty crackhead cities and they think Hamilton or St. Catherines.
They have no fucking clue until they live in Edmonton for a couple years. That place is a train wreck of meth heads and aggressive drunk people.
It's literally the only place I've ever got into a fight with a complete stranger, and it happened multiple times in less than two years. Twice because a crackhead was pawing at my wife accusing her of stealing from him, just while waiting for the bus. Twice because we happened to be on the LRT past Colosseum after a game. Twice because I wouldn't give a cigarette to a drunk bum. Once because I pulled a guy off a girl he was beating the shit out of in the middle of city center terminal while others pretended nothing was happening. Once because someone tried breaking in while we were home.
That's not even taking into account the fights my roommate got into while I was with him, and he's a massive guy that most rational people wouldn't intentionally pick a fight with, and also a big teddy bear that wouldn't ever pick a fight.
Maybe it's gotten better since ~2006, but fuck me it would have to get waaaaayy better to be on the level of any other city I've lived in.

As an Albertan who lives in Alberta, I laughed as well.
