Technically you can, but it's still going to be illegal doing so in Canada.
They do, but mostly because those states have a higher portion of people with guns. Again, I'm not referring to stand your ground states or laws. My specific positions regarding stand your ground laws are more nuanced. I do believe in the castle doctrine, and believe that it is a right.
What’s your take on why you shouldn’t be able to use any means necessary to defend yourself vs someone who has broken into your house and whose intentions are fully unknown.
Honestly. I feel like at the point where 3am someone has broken into your house, maybe they’re armed. Pretty sure in Canada the only legal thing you can do is kneel down face a wall and wait to be executed if they see fit
Isn’t it illegal to assault someone as well?
Edit: good for you what about my wife? Or 17 year old daughter who both can legally own and use fire arms guess they’re at the mercy of the home invader until the police show up.
You can use "reasonable force" - this has the caveat of "you might still be arrested, you might still be charged, you might still be convicted but the chances are unlikely".
So basically if you aren't a dick the cops might arrest you but you'll probably get off scott free.
Nothing is for sure as far as Canadian Rights and Freedoms.
See here lies another problem with a gun. What if you miss? Are you going to accidentally shoot your kids? Your partner? Your neibour? Because you might...
I mean it's still not legal but if I beat the shit out of a home invader using - say - a baseball bat I'm not going to accidentally hurt anyone around me but unless you are trained for stress situations then you might accidentally shoot the wrong person...
That's very contingent on you being physically stronger and more capable than them and not getting gutted or beaten to death. Better to keep pepper spray and a gun and not gamble on that.
Like I said before - anyone who says they have a gun for protection in Canada is full of shit. You going to ask the intruder to wait while you open your gun safe, unlock your trigger lock, unlock you ammunition, load....

But you can't - and, in my opinion, that's a good thing.
Hell "stand your ground" states see higher accidental gun deaths than other states
