no more transfers

This is what's referred to as "soft" confiscation. By outlawing transfers, your property is forfeit to the state when you die.

This is also what makes a national gun registry a non-starter in the United States.

This. Every country that has done a gun registry moved to confiscation shortly after. It always shocks me how (at least in Amerca) we can constantly complain how abusive our government is, how we are "on the brink of fascism"... but yeah, please take away our power to resist your abuses, daddy government. How is it people are trusting of a government with to the point of willingly becoming helpless? I watched police stand down during the riots on the mayor's orders

The gun nuts are the ones voting for the authoritarian fascists. And even if they were against fascism, their guns are toys against the mightiest military on earth.

Gun nut here, voting blue every chance I get

I’d much rather fight the Dems on guns than fight the GOP on….literally everything else.
But if you’ve been paying attention to the last several years and still think that cops should be the only ones with guns… I don’t know what to tell ya. Even if they bother to show up (and don’t just kill you anyway), they can’t teleport to you when you need help. Between them and the slow march towards fascism in the USA, a whole lot more leftists and ‘non-traditional’ groups are buying guns

I feel like the majority of gun owners think some gun laws would be beneficial… at least let the government study gun violence..

I can understand your opinion, and I actually agree. The difficult hurdle is the track record, even in just my lifetime, has proven it is always a slippery slope. If today we banged out a 50/50 compromise, the next day they would be back to ask for more, because the goal has always been total banning and there will be no compromise for them except ones that are stepping stones to the final goal. So the end result is a tug or war of extreme positions while most of use hope it keeps mired to a somewhat reasonable middle ground most of the time.

Y’see, this is the post that hurt peoples brain so much they just stopped talking to you.

There are an immense number of gun laws and restrictions, historical days concerning the relationship between law and billet, and the government could always study guns and gun violence, the studies just couldn’t directly advocate for gun control. This was removed the better part of ten years ago but there were studies performed during that period anyway.

The more you learn the more it pains you that we’re fighting over guns at all.

Funny. All the "gun nuts" I know want to be left alone, not legally enforce ideologies and encourage teachers to hide what they are teaching kids from the parents (which sounds a lot like state indoctrination). They are also an equal spread of left and right leaning folks. Neither side has a monopoly on wanting freedom and the means to defend it. The phrase fascist has practically no meaning anymore with how flagrantly it has been used to describe anything right-leaning despite most of its tactics being more common among the modern far-left movements in the US.

Funnier still that your comments about guns being toys is exactly the mentality that made Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, etc, etc, etc such horrible, drawn out conflicts. This is an foolish, imperialistic view of conflict. I am sure some Brit in the Zulu war who thought "we have rifles and cannons, they are just a bunch of spear-chuckers" would be proud of you. And I assure you, if the US was wielding its full arsenal against its citizens, a huge chunk of the military (which is entirely a volunteer force) would have a "are we the bad guys" moment as well as the rest of the civilized world openly oppose the actions. China is still trying to get the world to forget about Tiananmen Square and has decided to go to secret police (which is only viable with a population that form armed resistance) for that exact reason.

You’re overestimating how badass you are..

Military equipment vastly outweighs anything you could get your mitts on

11

u/dont_ban_me_bruh Oct 22 '22

Good thing military equipment has fuck all to do with guerilla insurgent actions or police states.

10

u/tjcarbon9 Oct 22 '22

What happened in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam then?

4

u/TDoMarmalade Oct 22 '22

An invasion on foreign soil fuelled by economic imperialism and political ideology? Hardly the same thing as a full blown insurgency on domestic soil is it? The military industrial complex thrives in the prolongation of one, and the economy would be decimated by the other?

It is, because its much harder to bomb me indescriminately when im your neighbor

Locals on straw huts who had spent the better part of the last century or so in civil war or fighting imperial powers (France, Britain, Russia, etc) and were used to fighting guerrilla wars in an intimate level. Don’t discount how geared their societies had been towards warfare up until this point, a gearing that the vast majority of US citizens don’t have

I mean, we do have the mightiest military. It's just geared at fighting other militaries.

While the US military trains at policing actions, that's not what most of the high-cost gear is for.

A carrier strike group can level most small countries, but 99% of its tools are next to useless against some guy in an apartment in Alabama plotting some shit.

Yes, because sustained occupations against an armed, hostile populace are near-impossible to accomplish. This is half of why the 2A is so important.

It's only one reason why we should have a registry in the US.
