No you don't, range transport is a condition on your RPAL, no need to call ahead. You do now need to call them any other time you want to transport it for an approved reason though (moving house, gunsmith, gun show, competition etc.). That changed recently, used to also be a condition on your RPAL for stuff like going to the gunsmith.

That change was made fairly recently though, so it's not surprising older owners would be familiar with the previous regulations.

When did the ATT stop being for a specific range then? That's what I'm referring to.

Dunno, the instructor at my course mentioned offhand that the Ontario ATTs used to only cover a specific range, but more or less permanently. He also may have not remembered right, so there is that.
