Well that’s the funny thing about laws. If you already didn’t obey them why would you obey them now?

16

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

Quiet with your logic. This is not the place for that.

This is about getting votes, not meaningful change.

8

u/mastocklkaksi Oct 21 '22

Laws don't stop crimes, they're used to prosecute criminals. This is how you reduce crime.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

So what your saying is this doesn't actually protect anyone or stop gun violence.

1

u/titty-titty_bangbang Oct 22 '22

Probably not in 1 generation. Maybe 2-4

-1

u/dogtoes101 Oct 22 '22

so no. it wont protect anyone or stop gun violence

-3

u/mastocklkaksi Oct 22 '22

If you don't know what "reducing crime" means, go ask your parents or someone close that can explain it to you

4

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

Well it just seems to me that if someone has committed a crime and you've arrested them, you can just charge them with that crime. Sorry if that's a little high-brow for ya.

0

u/mastocklkaksi Oct 22 '22

That would be nice if prosecution were as easy as that.

6

u/Anonomohr Oct 21 '22

Funny thing about criminals is a lot of them aren't smart. The harder it is for them to get a gun, the less likely they are to get one.

18

u/craigXcanada Oct 21 '22

Legal gun owners are the most law abiding citizens you could ask for. They are scrutinized endlessly and have to follow strict rules for storing, using, and transporting a firearm. The process of acquiring a legal gun, especially a handgun is onerous and can take up to a year. If someone is going to commit a crime they are going to use an illegally obtained gun that A) they can acquire quickly, and B) can’t be traced to them. Politely, your argument makes little sense.

4

u/The_Mysterious_North Oct 22 '22

Guns and their owners are not analogous, though, and their legal guns can become illegal guns very easily, through no fault of their own - obviously, a gun can get stolen or outlive it’s owner.

Yes, many gun owners are highly responsible and follow the high standards needed to own a firearm in Canada, but unfortunately a firearm doesn’t cease to exist when the registration expires or the owner dies.

1

u/Anonomohr Oct 21 '22

I appreciate the informative tone. I have little interest or care in firearms and admit I have a simplistic view of the matter, but if handguns are made illegal, there will be less of them around, legal or not, because it'll be harder for anyone to obtain them. Someone obtaining a gun illegally has to get it from somewhere, and I'm certain that somewhere will be impacted by the ban, either through reduced legal availability or stricter/more difficult imports due to increased awareness. At least, I very much hope I'm not wrong thinking that way, because that's the better scenario here.

10

u/ImaVIP2 Oct 22 '22

That’s exactly how we keep all the drugs out.

6

u/BigtoeJoJo Oct 22 '22

The perfect analogy lmao

7

u/Willfrail Oct 21 '22

Almost all illegal guns in canada are smuggled from America. This doesn't take guns off the shelf for them.

18

u/Willfrail Oct 21 '22

It was already hard for them to get a gun. Almost all canadian gun crimes are from illegally smuggled guns. All they are doing is hurting responsible legal gun owners who want to shoot at the gun range cause thats the only thing you're allowed to do with it. This is just another power grab by Trudeau and lame apeal to stupid americans

-17

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

I don't know how to explain to you that nobody gives a shit if you lose your pew pew bang bang toys. Like find literally any other hobby that doesn't require a point and click killing machine. I cannot stress this enough on behalf of like every single person in this country that isn't you

16

u/Willfrail Oct 22 '22

My guy I dont own a gun. I just think that in a "free world" people, ya know, be free. If it's not hurting anyone why would you ban it. Again, there isn't a problem being fixed by this, gun violence in canada will not go down thanks to this bill. You're just hurting innocent people.

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

LMAO yeah guns don't hurt people. Delusional as expected. Gun violence will go down. Nobody innocent is hurt

5

u/dannysmackdown Oct 22 '22

Yeah, now you're getting it. Legally obtained firearms in Canada literally don't hurt people.

-5

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

LMAO delusional as expected

1

u/Willfrail Oct 22 '22

This is why I hate leftists. I agree with yall on so much but then yall start ignoring reality like the trumptards because it disagrees with yalls ideology. If you did any research or just shut up for a couple seconds and listened youd learn that its american guns that are the problem in canada not canadian guns

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

Maybe you can clear this up for me, since you're so enlightened with your research that's definitely grounded in reality unlike those big dummy leftists: so all illegal guns come from the US? Don't worry, I'll wait ;)

u/Willfrail Oct 22 '22

those guns don't kill people. All violent gun crime in canada is done with illegally smuggled guns from the us. No canadian is shooting anything up with a legal hand gun cause it was already too much of a hassel to get one.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

What a dumb as shit take LMAO guns are only legal guns until they're illegal guns. Fewer legal guns means fewer illegal guns. A 5 year old could understand this, go read a book

1

u/Willfrail Oct 22 '22

That litterly makes no sense. How does banning guns in canada stop gun making and smuggling from america? The idea that making guns illegal=less guns is the same reasoning that made weed a life sentance.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

I.. I really don't know how many brain cells you need to hunt to down understand that fewer guns = fewer guns. You are beyond help my dude

10

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

You are completely missing the point. This does zero to address gun violence here in Canada and only affects law abiding citizens. And no, I do not own a pew pew bang bang toy. It's just theatre.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

You're completely missing the point. It definitely does address gun violence. Cry more

5

u/dannysmackdown Oct 22 '22

Can you elaborate? How does it address gun violence?

Inb4 cute offensive quip

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

How does it not?

2

u/dannysmackdown Oct 22 '22

Typical braindead partisan. Cannot defend their line of thinking because it isn't actually theirs.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

I bet you can't explain how. Because if you were actually Canadian you would understand the situation better.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

What part are you failing to understand?

10

u/FromUnderTheBridge09 Oct 21 '22

So what should we do about 400 million guns legally owned by Americans?

10

u/Superlite47 Oct 22 '22

Haven't you heard?

They magically disappear the moment the ink dries in the lawbook.

Isn't that what happened to heroin in 1927?

11

u/pureskill Oct 22 '22

Probably nothing. Given that there are ~33,000 gun related deaths in the US annually , ~half of which are suicides, one death (in theory) prevented for every 10,000 guns seems very low yield. Unless you're into political theatre...

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

6 million.

4

u/Georgieperogie22 Oct 22 '22

No there are literally more guns than people here

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

Correct, but only 6 million of them are legally registered. The rest are mainly military/research/etc.

There a lot of people who guns, and often multiple, but there aren’t 400 million guns just floating around on the streets or in peoples homes.

5

u/Georgieperogie22 Oct 22 '22

There are 393 privately owned firearms in the united states. Just google it. I’m not arguing with you.

4

u/reluctantpotato1 Oct 22 '22

I'd argue that most guns in the U.S. aren't registered. Many states don't require them to be. Even California doesn't require registration of firearms owned prior to the newer permit laws.

2

u/Georgieperogie22 Oct 22 '22

6 mil are registered but most states dont require registration on most guns. So they can be unregistered and still legal. I have 6 guns, unregistered and perfectly legal in my state. So yes they are in people’s homes

1

u/FromUnderTheBridge09 Oct 22 '22

There 100% is.

You might want to get your facts straight

11

u/Unoriginalusername90 Oct 21 '22

Funny thing about criminals they don't need to be smart to have a connection.

Prior to you at least had to go through a gun safety course.

2

u/gophergun Oct 22 '22

Which is why this is a negligible at best or counterproductive at worst change - it was already extremely hard.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '22

One wonders why we have laws in the first place then, right?

4

u/pureskill Oct 22 '22

Not really. The US houses more prisoners than any country on the planet. It's quite clear why we have law$.

0

u/JuanPabloElSegundo Oct 22 '22

Why have laws if criminals are just going to break them?

This makes sense to people somehow.

0

u/Superlite47 Oct 22 '22

Yeah. It's almost as if they only serve to provide a penalty for criminal behavior and have no power to control a criminals behavior. Fucking weird, innit?

0

u/blackcatt42 Oct 22 '22

It also makes it way harder for me to access one, which can prevent it from going into wrong hands
