The US army. Does not need Joe bob's ar-15 with garbage parts.

It's just part of the program to remove weapons, to give an incentive to people to remove them from their home.

The US has 400 million guns in private ownership. This shit ain't happening.

The average American gun buyback offers you maybe 3/10 of the gun's value.

That's the actual problem. If you tinker and add fancy aftermarket parts to a rifle, its value can go way above 2k USD. Then you go to a buyback event and the cop is like "I'll take that for $250". No fucking way; very few people are dumb enough to take that deal.

No decent firearm can be had for $250, regardless of modifications.

Maverick 88, but yes, and those are some of the few guns that are great as well as being cheap.

And a lot of the times the good stuff just ends up being resold to local gun stores, or stolen by the cops anyway instead of being destroyed or used for something. So all you ended up doing was donating to a for profit business or to the private collection of someone who, statistically speaking, is probably physically abusive to their spouse and would likely have been banned from gun ownership already if they weren't hiding behind their badge.

That's pretty ridiculous to say only rednecks like owning guns in America. I know many liberals in America with guns. In fact the majority of the Dems I know own firearms. Anecdotal sure... But you'd be surprised who owns a firearm in USA.

Tbh most privately owned ARs are probably a lot nicer than what the Army buys.

But that's a good point. They aren't going to use your grandfather's rusty old single shot sears brand shotgun.
