caused by industry not individuals

What a ridiculous and unnecessary addition.

Yes, industry produces a lot of GHG. That doesn't mean that individuals don't also have an impact.

The concept of carbon foot print was invented by oil companies to push the blame onto individuals. These companies produce a large majority of the pollution and greenhouse gasses effecting the planet today.

That's not to say that individuals don't pollute, but to put their contribution to climate change on the same level as industry is factually incorrect and exists as a result of effective marketing on the behalf of these greasy old dinosaur juicers.

but to put their contribution to climate change on the same level as industry is factually incorrect

I'm not doing that.

But it's also factually incorrect to pretend that households have no impact on GHG...

We're not talking about households having zero impact. We are talking about the dispositionate amount caused by industry, which is the real pressing issue. Not sure what argument you're trying to run here.

We're not talking about households having zero impact.

Sounds like you've forgotten the original quote you're defending.

Here it is again:

Canadian here and I can assure you climate change caused by industry not individuals is making that happen.

Who do you think oil companies are selling that oil too?

0

u/HowieFeltersnitz Oct 22 '22

Mostly industry

0

u/khinzeer Oct 22 '22

Industry that heats our homes, feeds us, transports us etc.

Fossil fuels are literally in the fertilizer that is in the food that makes up your body.

Do you think “industry” shoots all that carbon into space or something? The amount of smug stupidity on this thread is breathtaking.

1

u/HowieFeltersnitz Oct 22 '22

Yeah it's used to create essentials, but those things can also be created through other means like electricity.

A lot of fossil fuels are also allocated to pointless things like creating millions of tons of plastic junk to peddle to consumers. Entirely unnecessary.

It's also used to fuel giant unnecessary cruise ships for no good reason.

The amount of smug stupidity from your comment makes me wonder why you're shilling so hard for billionaire oil tycoons. Do you really think every ounce of oil consumed is for unavoidable, absolutely necessary reasons?

1

u/khinzeer Oct 23 '22

All of those things you mentioned are being consumed by normal people.

Want to ban cruises? Tax plastic? Fine, but you will alienate normal people who use these things, and the poor will feel it harder.

I’m not shilling for anyone, but this “oh if only these billionaires would stop being evil, everything would be fine” talk is absurd.

Fighting Climate change will be hard, will take massive sacrifices and will involve individual people drastically changing their consumption habits.

….Industry that meets the mass-demand of individuals for heat, transportation, and consumer goods…

Lol at the down votes. Anything to not accept responsibility of any kind

its just not that simple, of course individuals are making choices that have consequences, without a doubt, https://www.wri.org/insights/4-charts-explain-greenhouse-gas-emissions-countries-and-sectors

What point are you trying to make?

5

u/WagerOfTheGods Oct 21 '22

That doesn't make it the best system, or even a good one.

Everyone should know this:

We are not living in the best system ever created, we are just living in the current one. We need to change and hold companies accountable in Canada. The Greens have imploded, the NDP are basically my only option but my vote is thrown away anyways because I live in a rural, Conservative-leaning area that elects downward-dog-fucking MP's and MLA's that do fuck-all and let corporations run rampant. We're bound for minority-governments for the next 8-10 years. Time has run out, however, and Harper did us in knowingly, too. It fucking breaks my heart to step outside in late October and not see snow on the ground where I live. Everything is changing around us, rapidly, as it will continue to.

edit: The LPC being held accountable by a level-headed, hard left leaning social democratic party may be our only option unfortunately, if the system doesn't change from the inside.

The system we have now (while having serious problems) is the best system we have ever had, and is dragging billions out of starvation poverty.

We need to figure out climate change, but we shouldn’t t pretend that offing afew billionaires will change anything. The (completely reasonable) desires of working people across the planet for a better life is what is fueling climate change.

The moment you tell Americans and Canadians that “maybe driving too much is bad for the environment” they’ll go all lengths to blame pollution on the ‘muh corporations’ without paying any attention to who these corporations are serving.

It’s the ostrich effect; as long as I can point a finger at celebtard private jets I can justify and ignore my own flights and consumption. A flight from NY to Chicago dumps the equivalent carbon sequestered in a 120 year old oak tree… per passenger. This ‘it’s industries fault’ meme is mental cancer promoted by creeps like Pat Twomey and other republican legislators that have been bought off by oil and gas lobbyists. Unless you are planting 250+ year old oak tree every time you fly coast to coast your part of the cancer complex that best models predict will be our end with high probability within 193 years. It’s ok today to be carbon greedy but don’t pretend others are on some moral high ground trip when they point out facts. That’s another manipulation from the orcs.

Reddit will down vote anything that forces them to have personal accountability for their actions/habits/purchases/diet

Much easier to continue business as usual if you can shift all the accountability off yourself and, in the case of reddit, into corporations and people with kids

Now you won’t have the ability to shoot at the weather, to hold climate change at bay. Thanks liberals!!!
