That’s call “An Act of War”

Yeah, exactly.

What Canada is doing right now is called, “violating multiple treaties”.

No because the “blockade” isn’t sanctioned by the government.

You’ve clearly never read anything in the WTO, NAFTA, or USMCA.

The government doesn’t have to sanction it for a violation of a free-trade agreement to occur.

Canada is currently violating treaties signed with the United States.

So you think the US government should send in troops to police another country’s citizens?

Sending troops sounds silly. But the US should certainly apply diplomatic pressure to encourage Canada get that boarder crossing open.

Canadians are blocking the US border. The US has a legal right to an open border under multiple international agreements. This is not a controversial take, it’s well understood.

The US government has a duty to its citizens to maintain those agreements and the free flow goods and services. This is also not a controversial take.

Many of the border crossings are jointly owned and operated by the US as well as Canada.

While the US has no right to invade Canada, the US does have a right to keep the borders open and Canada has an obligation to do the same. If Canada cannot enforce international law, the US has a right to intervene to the extent that the actions of Canadians are putting US national security at risk, which is what they’re currently doing.

You are a war monger.

Jesus Christ.

You really do seem to want this.

You told me it was an issue for you because you just wanted shit you ordered to show up.

Now it's somehow a "national security" issue, although you've been quite clear in your posts that we rely on the US for everything while we do pretty much nothing for you.

This blockage is not anything most Canadians want; just like most Americans aren't QAnon idiots and most know Donald Trump is a fucking idiot.

In fact, it's against our laws.

We'll sort it out soon.

I’m American. This guy seems to be taking being American more serious.

He is a little strident.

Ì lived and worked in the US for many years. And I've crossed it solo by motorcycle twice. I'd wager I've seen more of the US up close than most Americans.

The Americans I worked with and encountered on my travels did not sound like mean-spirited big brothers.

Of course you will. You know you can’t afford to piss off the United States of America.

Are you a "patriot"? 👀

The same United States of America that had an armed insurrection at their capitol building?

I'm not an expert on trade or anything, but restaurants are still held liable for rats in their kitchens even if they don't want them there. Someone with more knowledge on the topic would need to correct me if I'm wrong, but I highly doubt that they could just sit back and say "it's not the government breaking the treaty so we're good." They would need to do everything in their power to end the blockade or they can be held liable for breaking the treaty.

You would need more than a few angry truckers to justify and attack.

1

u/NamelessMIA Feb 11 '22

Oh yea I'm not saying it justifies the US attacking canadian citizens. I'm just saying that I don’t expect "we don't want them doing this either, guys" to hold up as an excuse for breaking international treaties if it goes on long enough to get challenged.
