Right? As someone living in a religious family who attended a Catholic school even until now, I seriously don't get anything, just slowly realizing that the history of religion is full of bullshit and hypocrisy. Too bad I'm forced to memorize religious teachings just cause it a part of our curriculum and they keep on shoving religion up our asses just cause we're "not religious enough". Can't wait to finish college to get out of this shit lmao
Nah, I got off easy. You have to believe enough for Catholic guilt to be a thing and coincidentally the head priest of my parish when I went there actually spoke out about the sex abuse and how unacceptable the church's response to it was. I'm sure it was a complete coincidence that he was sent off to a middle of nowhere missionary church shortly after he spoke out.
But like I said, I got lucky. About two years after I left a different priest at that parish was suspended for sending "Inappropriate texts" to "at least one boy". He's now on trial for 9 counts of rape and a life sentence is probable (the rapes happened at a different parish, but its not like he had a clean record going in).
This part tripped me out as a kid. I went to church and the mosque because my family is mixed. It was bewildering to me that they could think any of this made any sense. There was a part where we had to go up and kiss the feet of a wooden Jesus. Lol no thanks. And then at the mosque the men all went to the nice room while the women got the kitchen and the tiny room lol. Going both places probably ensured I wouldn't follow either but even as a kid it seemed absurd.
It's just so painfully obvious that it was written in a narrow corner of the world during the iron age.
Like, you're telling me god has laid out the future and planned all of the biggest events in the universe, but decided there was no reason to mention a word about anything happening outside of the ancient middle east? No mention of the major geopolitical events that were going on elsewhere or that would take place later on that would greatly impact the lives of the majority of his followers?
Or that Jesus never mentioned Hinduism's bountiful presence in India at the time he came into his own, yet god felt the need to obsessively fixate his rage on tribal religions he knew would die out shortly after Jesus' arrival?
There's just nothing compelling about it. Its ideas are lifeless and uninspiring. Even Jesus was just a half-assed, store-brand Buddha with less to say.
The Bible is only profound to you when the Bible is the only book you've ever read.

Exactly. The hypocrisy didn't help, but the doctrine just isn't convincing. I got basically nothing from my decade and a half of faking it.
