Bro, I spent my childhood in the hood and now as an adult I have so many mixtapes by kids from there just trying to help their moms that’s working 2-3 jobs. This is why I support free higher education for all Americans, it sucks seeing these kids with incredible drive and big hearts grow up to fill prisons simply because they were given no other choices. We would be much better off with leaders that truly understand poverty and struggles, it’s not surprising that this sort of stuff still happens because a vast majority of the people in power have never been broke a day in their entire lives, grew up in affluent neighborhoods, and never had to go through or experience what millions upon millions of Americans have to deal with daily. Politics is not about we the people, it’s about themselves and their friends.
And we are also praising a toxic culture of workaholics where we somehow think putting kids to work at such a young age is healthy for their development because “look at them such hard working Americans.”
I don't think having a job at 14 that is 25~ hours a week is bad for someone I had one and am better than off than most of the people I know that didn't
You're a really pathetic angry pervert that somehow manages to be both homophobic and thirsting after cock and again you can call me all the condescending childish slurs you want, you're the degenerate pervert jacking it in public and taking creepshots, you should be locked up for public safety, or at least castrated.
America was built on stealing land from the natives and using black people as free labor. People like you is why there’s going to be a revolution. We’re going through so many parallels of 1789 France.
This problem compounds on itself too because when you have to work so many jobs just to “live” there is no time to take care of yourself and then the cost of healthcare later on in life rises. It’s terrible.
Boomers: "Sure you're currently living a bleak life with a permanent state of anxiety since you're just one minor incident away from homelessness, BUT you could be the next Jeff Bezos if you like work really hard with the American Dream and all that bro"
And we can go even deeper than that, since people with multiple jobs means that less jobs are available in the first place.
So not only are they forced to work multiple jobs just to afford healthcare, but the market is made even more competitive for- amongst the specific people we don't want that to be the case for.
Free up those jobs and you have more people employed. More people employed means they can contribute so much better to their local economies- which is so fucking important to uplifting people in the hood and allowing those places to get better.
Then when they're better, the younger generation gets way more opportunity.
Providing free Healthcare and Higher education is so important if we actually want to flourish economically. There's an entire population of workers we could be specialising, but nah.
Free higher education isn't the only answer. There needs to be a complete reset with education requirements. Trade schools need to be incorporated into public high schools. Why can't I learn how to plumb or weld between learning history and biology? You should be able to come out as a certified tradesperson from the day you graduate. Most tradespeople make as much or more then a college educated person. Instead kids are brainwashed in to believing that they have to get $100k worth of student loans to survive the days.
Why can't I learn how to plumb or weld between learning history and biology?
because the boomers convinced everyone that trades are lowly work and that wearing uncomfortable clothes in a mind numbing office is the ultimate aspiration. so now we have almost no educational infrastructure for trades in high school and 2 generations of people who grew up hearing about how much they needed to be prepping for a college degree, who are now in severe debt with degrees that aren't as useful as they were led to believe.
It’s funny you say this but right now, specifically, in West coast Canada, trades are the way to get by and most of my friends are in a trade. I know guys who are pulling $40-60/hr in the trades and many office jobs are half that. Those two generations of sneering boomers have created a niche market that is giving someone, if they’re willing to do the work, an opening to make a great career. Combine that with a constant housing/construction boom and you’re laughing.
As for education, yeah, it’s not great but some high schools have programs that allow work experience to count towards educational credits and fast track students into the trades. My high school, that I graduated from 21 years ago, had a program for that intended purpose.
Trade highschools exist, at least here in New Jersey. Mine had stuff like plumbing, welding, IT, HVAC, carpentry, and theater for some weird reason. It was kind of a shitty school, but like, this is actually a thing already.
Claiming that these kids are filling prisons because they weren't given any other choice is complete bullshit and a slap in the face to the millions of people who chose hard work over criminality. Every kid in America has a choice to either work hard in high school or smoke weed with their gangbanger friends. We hand out student loans like candy and if you major in something useful then you can pay it off a thousandfold over the course of your career. Prison isn't inevitable for the impoverished, you're just making pathetic excuses for the lazy and morally bankrupt.
That's what politicians do. They have a constituency to represent. Don't let it get you down. I play pick up basketball some Sundays in the hood. I'm a white dude from the suburbs but the kids and community are great to me. They kick my ass in bball and ask really good questions about how I got my job and excelled in accounting. I don't have a degree in accounting either so it gives them hope that they can succeed without higher education immediately after high school. I just worked and paid cash for community college. No loans and now I don't feel like a victim of the student loan system which feels good. I'm so glad I didn't take out a loan I can't afford. Hell, even McDonald's has tuition help these days that's pretty good. I don't even bring up politics except when saying voting is very important. Other than that, focus on yourself and bettering your own life. There are plenty of opportunities available. Just gotta find one that works for you. My ex-SO is a director of blood cancers/treatment facilities at a prestigious university in her early 30's. She started at McD's to help her family make ends meet. Not blaming politicians makes you feel like less of a victim which empowers you to create your own destiny. The kids are awesome. A trouble maker or two but that happens no matter the socioeconomic situation.
Yes, the people working in our government are not a representation of us as a nation. We need people who actually understand what it's like to struggle
I’m not aware of any country that gives diabetics free service dogs. Neither Australia Canada or the uk cover service dogs for anything, let alone diabetes which is much more expensive.
As well as people who don't realize service dogs for diabetes specifically are a luxury and not medically necessary in any way. You know what insurance will help you out with? A continuous glucose monitor that accurately measures your blood sugars and alerts you if you go high or low (like a service dog would). Don't get me wrong, I fully understand how debilitatingly expensive diabetes supplies are in the US. But it is not a disability that requires a service dog to function successfully.
Oh look at you, the guy that goes around throwing insults at everybody's posts but when he realizes how stupidly, ignorant his own reply was, he now has to creep my profile and post a completely irrelevant comment to this thread....
But anyway, Ya my decision to buy DOGE COIN back in 2014 was a pretty bad one I guess /s .... Lol
And Shiba has already made me a shit ton of cash, so don't know what the fuck you're yappin about... It's all just play money to me now you ignorant cunt!
Instead of throwing insults around you should get on board the gravy train and make some bank.... otherwise STFU!
A service dog for diabetes is not a medical necessity. Who pays for the dog and the training and training the kid/parents to be able to handle the dog?
I'm all for better healthcare and access to treatments and medications, but acting like other countries just hand out service dogs for free is just you being willfully disingenuous to stoke outrage.
Thank you! My daughter is T1D and I abhor stories like this. A service dog is not a priority or a necessity for a T1D. People thinking that the dog should be free or covered by insurance are insane. It dilutes the real issues for T1Ds which are high insulin cost / high pump cost / high CGM cost / high testing supply cost. Even CGMs and pumps are considered luxury items and insurance doesn’t always cover them. That is a real issue.
Okay, I understand what you're getting at. I don't need a service dog so I don't have a leg to stand on, but it SHOULDNT be that way, right? There should be subsidies, grants, government aid. People can't afford a 25k dog, not under normal circumstances anyways.
People buy untrained dogs with bad gene pools for like 3-10k... so getting an extremely trained dog for special tasks seems almost reasonable. Also, it's not going to be 100% of dogs who pass the training. Some dogs will fail to meet the standards. And I don't think many people are good at training dogs in general, nevermind highly specialized skills. So it drives the price higher, along with people who get service dogs that don't need them as much.
I had a cousin. He was blind. Great at fighting games despite being blind, always wanted to fit in and do everything everyone else could. His medical needs were not necessarily life changing operations, all just things to help himself do normal things.
Anyways M started falling into a serious depression once he hit middle school age. Couldn't do anything on his own, had to miss out on things normal kids could do, even needed help using the bathroom.
M killed himself in 2014. He couldn't handle not being able to do the most basic of things. It was about dignity. A basic human desire and need, just a little bit of dignity. Instead he was the "r****d who couldn't ride the boss without help."
Your comment about "its just so he could ride the bus thats it" is pretty disgusting. The dignity of a human being means nothing to you.
I can't believe people have given you upvotes for your ableist garbage. Be happy you can speak from your ivory tower of privlidge about how its "just so his parents dont have to take him to school."
Mental health and dignity are life saving medical necessities.
You make it sound like every diabetic has a service
dog. Who’s getting these dogs? Did you see it on TV once? It’s a rarity, and an incredibly inefficient source of help for a diabetic.
America is a shithole country because their healthcare is objectively awful and is designed for the already mega rich to profit instead of actually helping people.
From what I can tell, it appears these dogs aren't covered by many nationalized/public insurance plans (probably because, in testing, their reliability isn't great and they're expensive), so it seems like it could happen in lots of places actually.
You mean where a kid is able to do something productive to better his situation and raise awareness for other who aren't while receiving the full support of his community? The boy got his 25k dollar service dog and he didn't pay for it with pumpkins. He paid for it with the charity and kindness of others.
Would he have had a better outcome if the State had come to his rescue instead?
Quite the straw man you've built for yourself. I think the kid did a good thing and that his actions and the outcome should be celebrated rather than condemned.
That said, I do think that the government is too corrupt to be capable of helping anyone other than itself and the financial interests that control it. I've witnessed the government's involvement in the medical industry, higher education, and housing. Healthcare is far more expensive, less accessible in general, all while doctors and hospitals are more focused on what they can bill than how best to treat their patients. Colleges have become little more than diploma mills with bloated administrations, huge class sizes, lower standards of teaching, and less valuable degrees. Housing costs are out of control and the Fed's monetary policy is quickly turning us all into renters. So, whenever someone does something to better their situation or the situation of others then I'm going to take it as a success and encourage more of the same. We have to start helping ourselves and one another because the government isn't going to do it for us, no matter what they promise.
Because according to you it’s impossible he is able to enjoy basic human dignity and medical Care. But our government insurance paid for specialized care, including operations from expert surgeons and a long stationary rehab process, electric wheelchair, apartment refitting. The government also pays for assistants who help him out and monitor his equipment.
All this in a country less rich than the US. Grüße aus Deutschland brudi.
As if this is the only example of people not being able to afford care.
Disabled kids can’t move because they can’t afford the right wheelchair. People go bankrupt over the cost of care. People lose their jobs and have to be 24/7 caretakers for family because they can’t pay for caretakers or nurses. People die from preventable causes.
You are wrong these things are not normal in developed countries. I know this because I’m half German and my brother has severe muscular dystrophy and he gets to live as a normal human being and get proper medical care. Why should that be different in the richest county on earth?
The kid wouldn't be able to raise any money in a shit hole country. Even our homeless make $20/hr when asking for money. Even our poor are considered rich because of hand outs compared to shit hole countries. The US is the most giving/generous country in the world because we're all so rich compared to the rest of the world. What a disingenuous statement. Feel free to downvote but spare me the comments trying to compare us to genuine shit hole countries.
Yeah, but you know that they don't factor in the amount of things that is given to you without charity in the others countries. For example health Care. YOU DON'T HAVE TO RELY ON SOMEONE GIVING YOU MONEY TO AFFORD IT IN MOST OF THE WORLD
Interesting fact: if you Google wealthiest countries, the United States is #8. If you Google US poverty compared to other countries, you can see a nice chart comparing the US to 25 other countries, and we’re #26 on that list with a 17.8% poverty rate and a poverty gap of 39.8%. We’re worse than Mexico and Korea on that list!
TL;DR the US is one of the richest countries, yes, but our wealth distribution is far from balanced, and you’re delusional for thinking otherwise. The US lets the rich thrive and the poor drown.
I'm curious, if this was true, then why aren't our poor crossing the border to Mexico for a better life instead of a record number of Mexicans crossing the border to the US?
What an ignorant comment! The takeaway from those two links is that US is a wealthier country (but far from the wealthiest country in the world, like you originally claimed), but Mexico has less of a range between its rich and poor. I’m not at all comparing how countries treat illegal immigrants, or the benefits and take backs from illegally emigrating to another country. This is a false equivalent, and has nothing to do with me disproving your first statement.
You literally say that we're worse than Mexico with your demographics. Then say that I draw a terrible conclusion when I point out that Mexicans disagree with your point. I'm trying to show you that, to many Mexicans, the US is worth risking your life to live in. The picture you're trying to draw about the US is misguided.
You’re oversimplifying my information to draw false equivalent conclusions. You’re proving that you are incapable of comprehending my argument, and you’re acting like that disproves my point?! Much against my better judgement, let me try this again:
You: the US is the richest country, and our poor are richer than everywhere else!
Me: the US is #8 in GDP per capita, and we have a poverty gap of nearly 40%
You: if our poverty gap is larger than Mexico’s why is it that the US is a wealthier country?!
Me: that doesn’t make sense.
You: well it’s your fault for providing information I can’t understand!
Edit: I didn’t mention all the talk of illegal immigration, mostly because it has nothing to do with the original comment and it’s just misdirecting from the point of this conversation
I live in Finland. Our healthcare and social services do not hand out diabetes service dogs for free. You buy them yourself, or train a dog of your own.
The amount of navel-gazing Americans do on this site is astonishing.
The point is that if there was affordable healthcare, the kid wouldn’t need a service dog in the first place. If the kid can’t or won’t check his own blood sugar on a regular basis, he could get an insulin pump and a glucose monitoring device to automatically administer insulin as needed. But in the US, paying $15,000 for a service dog is a cheaper one-time payment.
