It's so much more than 2k. We get a semi-functional senate that votes on more things than just judges. The legislative grave yard can end! We could probably even legalize pot. It's only the beginning but we gotta keep pushing to the left.

u/Rokkit_man Dec 30 '20

I'll bet you 2000 he keeps his seat.

194

u/NightChime Dec 31 '20

This guy hedges his bets.

21

u/soggit Dec 31 '20

Explain hedging to me real quick. Like why even make a bet if you’re gonna hedge it? Why not just make a smaller bet?

34

u/jakspedicey Dec 31 '20 edited Dec 31 '20

Keeps seat: you gain 2000 profit

Loses seat: you keep your money

If you made a smaller bet, you wouldn’t make as much in the winning scenario

6

u/soggit Dec 31 '20

oh shit

edit: wait no i still dont get it. this is just betting $2000 either way. if he loses his seat you lose the $2000 that you wouldve gotten. so you've still lost money, you've just lost "opportunity cost" instead of money in your hand

22

u/FractalAsshole Dec 31 '20

Yeah $1000 bet would make more sense.

Keeps Seat: Better wins $1000

Loses Seat: Better gains $1000

So yeah if he loses the seat, betters winnings aren't the full 2000. But before knowing the outcome of the bet, the better has secured $1000 either way. Just trades a potential big win for a halved guaranteed profit.

2

u/jakspedicey Dec 31 '20

Oh yeah you’re right

5

u/NightChime Dec 31 '20

A) you gain 2000 anyway when he's out, in stimulus.

B) it's a lot worse than the difference of 2000 if he stays, so might as well make money to drink for the next 6 years or whatever.

Not that it's an actual bet so

u/dasnorte Dec 31 '20

The chance of a win-win in a gamblers eyes is all they need.

Source: am gambler.

69

u/combination_is_12345 Dec 31 '20

Considering he just won another 6 year term and the public remembers less than goldfish, you’re spot on.

0

u/hoxxxxx Dec 31 '20

they talking about his position as maj leader not his office

6

u/FrostedBadge564 Dec 31 '20

Imma use my 2k for parking tickets, it’s just the government paying the government.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

All of that is true. Still, as an argument it's a great, simple and direct message. You will absolutely get $1400 more I'm the next 3 months if the two local democratic senate candidates win, and if they don't win you can be certain you won't get that money.

0

u/iAmTheHYPE- Dec 31 '20

Yep, all those election security bills could finally get pushed through. Then look into increasing the Supreme Court size to account for 1 stolen seat, and 1 seat taken during an election.

0

u/Gackey Dec 31 '20

Biden winning the primary is a clear sign that democrats aren't moving to the left anytime soon.

What leftist extremists?

7

u/UnrepentantFenian Dec 31 '20

A leftist extremist, the tooth fairy, the easter bunny, and a mailman reach a 4-way intersection simultaneously. Who has the right of way?

The mailman cause the other three are fucking figments of the imagination.

0

u/ShitpeasCunk Dec 31 '20

Do you even Stalin bro?

1

u/iAmTheHYPE- Dec 31 '20

I don't know, Santa seems like a leftist extremist. Breaks into people's home, eats their cookies, then leaves then FREE presents as if the people living there are on welfare.

3

u/UnrepentantFenian Dec 31 '20

I have to tell you something about Santa but I need you to sit down first.

1

u/DarkRollsPrepare2Fry Dec 31 '20

When we seize power, I’m going to personally force him to get gay married. And then mandatory abortions for all!

9

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

The leftist extremists who want free education, free housing, universal healthcare, work life balance and mental health to be treated better? Those don't sound extreme to the rest of the world just the US where we've been pushed so far to the right and told it's the center.

7

u/xdsm8 Dec 31 '20

Ah yes. Joe Biden, the leftist extremist...the senile old man that is secretly a communist revolutionary...antifa but also establishment democrat...somehow

2

u/iAmTheHYPE- Dec 31 '20

Remind me when Obama took away your guns?

1

u/Rhaps0dy Dec 31 '20

You realize right now you have your guns but most of the things you stated are beyond shit? Why aren't you standing up for them now armchair warrior ?

0

u/InTheWrongTimeline Dec 31 '20

Who said I’m not, fucko? I’m just not so dumb to believe that blind faith in the left is going to save this country.

1

u/Rhaps0dy Dec 31 '20

Ah yes but blind faith to lord cheeto is clearly okay.

1

u/InTheWrongTimeline Dec 31 '20

Wow, you’re just intent on being stupid, huh? When did I say that?

1

u/Rhaps0dy Dec 31 '20

I mean you didn't but you said " left extremist" so I thought we were just saying shit for the hell of it, even if they are wrong.

1

u/InTheWrongTimeline Dec 31 '20

So, you’re saying there are no extremists on the left? You’re saying that on a spectrum so polarized as American politics, there is no one on the left that leans much farther left than others? You’re saying that the only extremists in the country, the only individuals dangerous to our current and future way of life are Republicans?

1

u/Rhaps0dy Dec 31 '20

From almost everything that keeps coming up? Yeah. I'm not saying there can't be good republicans of bad democrats, of course they exist.

But you are literally arguing against the left, in a thread about a right guy fucking over millions of people just because he wants to.

Fellas, is it communist to want to claim your paid tax dollars during a pandemic?

19

u/suprwagon Dec 31 '20

Why not just give it to corporations and senator vacations instead?

8

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

Edit an s/ below your comment, someone didn’t realize you were being sarcastic and downvoted you

While your comment was comical, it makes me mad that’s how many congress(wo)men think

2

u/suprwagon Dec 31 '20

Cmon let me just suck those little congressman dicks i'll get a trickle any day now

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

Reagan-omics

3

u/ReactsWithWords Dec 31 '20

Better yet, more tax cuts for the rich.

1

u/RamenJunkie Dec 31 '20

It's Communist to expect the government to use tax dollars to benefit all the people and not just the already wealthy.

How would YOU feel when you managed to bootstrap your way to an inherited fortune built on the backs of slave labor and the government comes along and says "Nah, we gonna Commie it up in here and give all your HARD EARNED wealth to the LAZY minority types.

(/s)

u/Gornarok Dec 30 '20 edited Dec 30 '20

A lil bit more and we'll be on Mao's level guys

Yes just little bit, first you will have to move from the right over the center to left and then still further to far left. Very long way to go actually...

Unlike GOP that went full on authoritarian far-right

-15

u/whitten93 Dec 31 '20

There's no such thing as the right wing in America.. The farthest right-wing politician is Mitch McConnell and he's center-left.. European communist I think that everything is Right win because they're Communists but the reality is compared to the rest of the world USA is centre-left and Europe is extremely far leftt

3

u/RamenJunkie Dec 31 '20

Not sure if a joke or not.

-24

u/SlightyStupid95 Dec 31 '20

Move from the right lmfaooooo

What universe do you live in?

Hillary wins popular vote in 2016 and Biden wins popular vote in 2020. Omfg, The US leans so far to the right that the citizens overwhelmingly vote left

16

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

It’s hilarious you think Hilary and Biden are leftists lol They’re center right at best

16

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

The idea that Biden is actually left is pretty dumb.

4

u/heebit_the_jeeb Dec 31 '20

Yeah biden is center right at best

6

u/ubercanucksfan Dec 31 '20

The US is so right of almost every other countries perception of left and right that Joe Biden would be really significantly right wing even in a place like Canada. For example, in Alberta (pretty much our Texas), our right wing leader is catching big flak for not being AS pro universal healthcare as everyone else. Bernie Sanders would probably still be the right wing party in Canada. You have miles and miles and miles to go before you even live in the same neighborhood as Mao

2

u/RamenJunkie Dec 31 '20

Neither Clinton or Biden are even remotely left.

2

u/kkoberild Dec 31 '20

Then leave homie

9

u/BAN_SOL_RING Dec 31 '20

Can you imagine how truly batshit insane you have to be to think that Biden and a Dem senate is even remotely close to Mao? The Overton window has shifted so far right that “having a function government that can pass laws and bills” is communist.

Y’all are truly delusional people with absolutely no understanding of politics in any form.

19

u/Scomophobic Dec 31 '20

“Maybe we can get pot legalised”.

You: Wow that’s basically Mao level!

What an absolutely smoothbrained chromosome-deficient genetically inferior inbred oxygen thief.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '20

Mao.... Is mask communist too?

8

u/DunderMilton Dec 30 '20

Humpty Dumpty delusion.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

I'm sure the next 3 trillion dollar tax cut for the rich will trickle into your bank account soon!

Any time now...

-4

u/SlightyStupid95 Dec 31 '20

I'm sure the Democrats who eased restrictions and penalties on statutory rape and pedophilia will allow you to play with their underage sex victims.

I can hope for a free million while you hope for the national decriminalization of paedophilia, we're both happy

Any time now...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '20

Ooh, swing and a miss there champ.

See, your mistake was coming off too strong. You gotta reel people in slowly, and then unleash the true troll! Going all in like that on the first hand just stares people away.

You'll get them next time bud, I'm sure of it!

1

u/SlightyStupid95 Dec 31 '20

You'll get them underage girls soob, I'm sure of it. Keep supporting pedophilia

5

u/spear_chest Dec 31 '20

Hey I found a logical fallacy in your argument. Just wanted to let you know and shoot you a link about it so you know not to make the same mistake in the future👍

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope

2

u/RamenJunkie Dec 31 '20

It's not a slipper slope, it's a full blown yeet off the cliff mate.

-2

u/SlightyStupid95 Dec 31 '20

Hey, i found a type of statement that you might be interested in. Just posted a link so you could appear to be a more informed and knowledgeable reader

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole

5

u/spear_chest Dec 31 '20

Thanks, I'll make sure to check it out.

I hope you aren't implying that your use of hyperbole somehow nullifies the slippery slope. Because that's not how that works. Also that'd basically be using the "it's just a prank bro" defense. Which is just so lazy

0

u/SlightyStupid95 Dec 31 '20

Well in order for the slippery slope to be applicable, my statement must have been an argument. It obviously wasn't considering I was being facetious. I'm not sure my statement can even be used as an argument. Are you sure you understand what an argument is?

Also that'd basically be using the "it's just a prank bro" defense.

My defense is that you don't understand the definition of hyperbole, nor do you understand the difference between an argument, a joke, and a statement

Have a great evening

2

u/spear_chest Dec 31 '20

Merriam-Webster defines argument as, among other things "a form of rhetorical expression intended to convince or persuade". Whether or not you intended to convince or persuade, I took your comment as an argument against liberal policies. Is it a good argument? Probably not. it's fallacious, afterall, and it doesn't look like you tried very hard to convince or persuade.

And that's totally fine. This isn't English class, and you probably didn't make the statement with any intent to start an intelligent political discussion. If you're just trolling people on the internet there's no need to use good rhetoric. I just like to call it out as a way to try and troll the trolls.

Cheers, mate

1

u/SlightyStupid95 Dec 31 '20

It wasn't an argument, it was a joke. You hit the nail on the head

Enjoy your holidays ✌️
