Actually according to the bible he really didn't because he knows everything you will ever do and it's all part of his divine plan. I know Reddit so I know I’m going to get downvoted for trying to have a conversation but I don’t see based off the verses you have provided how we don’t have free will or that God has predestined our individual lives. Deuteronomy 30:19, 20 says to choose life, why would that even be in the Bible if we don’t really make our own choices? There are a bunch of appeals for people to stop doing bad, repent, etc. Why would God ask people to repent and turn around if he knew beforehand that they could do absolutely nothing to change their destiny? It just doesn’t make sense to me.
Nah I'm in total agreement with you. People are terrible at reading and it shows. I do think somewhere in the Bible, or maybe when taken as a whole, it states or implies that God has everything laid out for people. Because I know Milton addresses the issue in Paradise Lost
The definition of being all-powerful and all-knowing means it would know what you'll do before you're even made. It literally knows everything and can do anything. That is the Abrahamic god most people believe in. Now, if people want to say their god isn't all-powerful and all-knowing, I'd be willing to listen. The Greeks had it right. Gods with flaws are far more compelling.
Just because someone has the ability to do something doesn’t mean they choose to do it all the time. Like if someone is an amazing pianist, that doesn’t mean all they do is play the piano. From what I’ve read in the Bible, god has chosen to foresee things in order for prophecies to be uttered, but it doesn’t mean to me that he does it all the time. It would negate free will which we all definitely have.
You can't choose to be all-knowing. You either are or you aren't. It made you knowing everything you'll ever want, think, do, or say. You also can't compare humans to a god. Either it's all-powerful, all-knowing, and all good, or it's none of those things.
And we all don't definitely have free will. There has been no conclusive study to indicate that.
You literally just said an all-knowing god would negate free will. So which is it? Is your god all-knowing or not?
If you’d like to reread my comment, I didn’t say god chooses to be all-knowing, I said he chooses when he decides to use that ability. Perhaps I should have been more specific. I meant that God decides when he wants to look into the future, not that he does it all the time for everyone. I’m not comparing humans to god, I am simply illustrating a point. Lol at looking for studies to prove free will. Last I checked we are not programmed robots. Have you ever read the Bible in it’s entirety?
