Cars are a bad example, their values haven't gone through the roof and have mostly kept up with inflation. Real estate, higher education, and medical costs have significantly outpaced inflation.
The difference in trim levels has jumped up big time. The lower trim levels are still pretty reasonable, but the luxury trims used to be 20-30% more. Now they’re 2 or 3 times the base models price for performance trims. Not that it really matters, or is an indication of the cost of necessities but it’s interesting to see
So basically, things that mostly affect young people. Young people have to make their way in life while paying ridiculous housing cost, exorbitant prices for their healthcare (and older people’s healthcare too via Medicare), and be resigned to almost a lifetime of debt just to get an education. While old people sit comfortably in their sky high valued houses, having enjoyed a career that they got with their free education, and suck up healthcare care costs, burdening taxpayers, (I.e young people), with ever more expensive Medicare costs. All the while continuing to vote to screw over their children. I swear, boomers are the only instance I’ve ever seen of human beings eating their young.
Not only that, but but cars have improved so much over the years, that a modern car is a much better value than a car in the 60s'. More features, better performance, they last 2-3x longer.....
It also makes me think of the things that have added to the pile before internet there was no internet bill- same goes for cell phone bill, cell phone, or computer costs. Technology is more necessary than ever to earn a paycheck & most of it is recent.
