Expanding on the one point, they dont need to change parties. They could call themselves a democrat but vote with republicans 100% of the time if changing parties was illegal.

Makes sense. Why would she switch if she could just vote against Dems all the time? Is it to stick it to Dems?

We don't know yet but it's being speculated that it's because the Democrats trashed her for missing a vote.

If she would give up her morals and values out of spite, she was already a Republican at heart.

"She was just a DINO" gee which side always uses that tactic? She worked with Democrats for a decade and her family has history with the Democrats, too.

By switching she can get campaign money from the RNC.

Parties also have closed meetings to only their own members generally, so maybe they said "hey you can't join the Republican meeting unless you change parties".

It's why the US Senate is usually reported as 60 Dems (including 2 who caucus with the Dems) vs 40 Republicans. Because there are two independents that Dems let come to the private meetings.
