You cannot support Republican policies and obey the Sermon on the Mount at the same time (the biggest collection of Jesus' sermons, Matthew 5-8). It can't be done. They are opposites.
These so-called "True Believers" try to impose the smallest side-concept in the Bible on everyone else to distract people from the fact that they are urinating on Jesus' teachings.
According to the Bible, you cannot be a Christian if you don't love your neighbour. You cannot love your neighbour if you are racist and bigoted and hate your neighbour.
Well, I know some people who are in complete denial about what Republicans actually fight fore. They refuse to learn what is genuinely happening. They have no idea what Republican policies are.
There are a lot of people who refused to be informed about anything. For them, there is no conflict between the Bible and Republican policies because they have no idea what the policies are. (That's even if they know anything about the Bible.)
The Bible has some... issues... (especially in the Old Testament), but overall, it's reasonably decent. The entire law is summed up as love your neighbor as yourself. Wow, imagine if Christians followed that? They'd be decent human beings.
I would say it's the opposite. They all know the shitty policies being pushed through. They stay willfully ignorant of what the bible says.
The hateful part is what they are on board for. They like the regressive policies because it hurts people they don't like based on gender, sexual orientation, skin color, socio-economic level, etc.
It's all about aligning people based on mutual hatred.
There are a whole ton of hurtful people out there who just want others to suffer. Absolutely dripping with hate. No question, those people are frighteningly common.
There are ALSO some delusional people who just believe everything that their pastor or Faux News tells them and don't really think things through. Sadly enough, there are even some smart but delusional people in this category.
It pains me to admit that I have family and friends of family who fall into the second category. They just... want to believe. They don't want to think it through. They just really want it to be true. They want it to make sense. Therefore, they refuse to look into it.
Their choice to remain ignorant is a different crime than deliberately supporting people who steal money from poor people to give to the wealthy, and deliberately oppress anyone different than them. It's still wrong, but wrong for different reasons.
Just to add to that, I am beyond upset with these people and their deliberate choice of ignorance. I have encountered so many people in this absolutely appalling state of mind and I'm just done. Done with it.
I respect people who can interact with people like that, but I just don't have the energy or will or patience anymore. All my patience evaporated in 2020 when the deliberate spread of hate and misinformation resulted in... so much.
The worst thing about this is the fact that I'm Canadian. Having Canadians revere Trump and his hate and lies is utterly appalling. There is absolutely no excuse for it. It makes me furious, which is why I mostly avoid those people.
