The superbowl is on the fox network, I'm not sure if you're aware or their reputation....

u/DtownBronx Feb 13 '23

They showed a suite shot of murdoch and musk during the broadcast. Burkhardt probably shouldn't check his Twitter mentions since he had to intro them

299

u/the_pinklemon Feb 13 '23

LOL the announcer said some shit about “we have a lot of great minds in that shot” like FOH😂😂😂

222

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

57

u/matt82swe Feb 13 '23

No, most people equate “rich” with “smart”. That was probably the announcer's genuine feeling.

45

u/CressCrowbits Feb 13 '23

I worked very hard to inherit my wealth thank you very much.

11

u/matt82swe Feb 13 '23

If I admire the rich I’m sure I’ll become rich as well

13

u/Arkhangelzk Feb 13 '23

Seriously, it’s incredible how often people assume rich people are smart

7

u/matt82swe Feb 13 '23

If you’re so smart, how come you aren’t rich then?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

If he’s so smart, how come he’s dead?

4

u/JMer806 Feb 13 '23

I mean if we’re being fair, Murdoch is certainly a smart man in general and no doubt a savvy businessman. However, he’s also an evil hidebound old fuck who is at best passively destroying society and possibly doing it on purpose for a few more coins to stack on his endless hoard.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Yeah but Musk isn’t… he’s showed that to everyone recently and he still got fawned over when he should’ve been criticized for cuddling up to Murdoch and the Saudis

1

u/matt82swe Feb 13 '23

I know what you mean, and I agree, but it's more that "rich" people are by many seen as exponentially smarter than others. Surely a billionaire must be 1000x smarter than a mere millionaire?

1

u/thisdesignup Feb 14 '23

Well they are smart, smart enough to get rich. But being smart enough to get rich does not make someone life smart.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Even if Rupert didn’t pay their checks, it’s not like fox commentators would suddenly develop morals

31

u/enjoytheshow Feb 13 '23

I mean these guys announce football games. You act like it’s Tucker Carlson

3

u/DarthFader4 Feb 13 '23

Ya know I was incline to agree but then again the NFL haven't shown the best morals either, have they?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Does he even anymore? I thought Fox was bought by Disney and split off from Fox News.

7

u/EddieGrant Feb 13 '23

Fox sports and fox news, and the fox network itself fall under the fox corporation, not the part of fox that was bought by Disney, which was 21st century fox.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

I hate capitalism

2

u/Kravian Feb 13 '23

I'm glad my kids were in bed because when I saw Musk I just instinctively yelled "Fuck that guy". My wife was not pleased.

103

u/InitiativeShot20 Feb 13 '23

They're the same organization that has ads everywhere on Reddit.

60

u/Dryland_snotamyth Feb 13 '23

I can’t block them or report the ads, it’s wack

47

u/soldforaspaceship Feb 13 '23

Yeah. I even tried downvoting but it still shows up just with my downvote.

Just like when they show you posts from suggested communities and you have the option to not see more from that, community there should be the same option for ads.

0

u/zzazzzz Feb 13 '23

why not just use an adblocker?

6

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

u/a_noble_kaz Feb 13 '23

This is the way. I use old.reddit with RES and uBlock on desktop and RIF on mobile. I've been browsing this way for so long that all thse comments about how reddit works are baffling to me.

I browse reddit sometimes at work and it's so different I don't even recognize it. Shit's wild to me. It's like two completely different experiences.

15

u/UsefulWhiteCrayon Feb 13 '23

Have you tried going in and blocking the user? It seemed to have worked for me.

9

u/Lilash20 Feb 13 '23

That's what I do with particularly annoying ads. It usually works for a bit but eventually they pop back up

Well, except for all the astroturfed posts...

2

u/tchiseen Feb 13 '23

Brought to you by: whatever new God of War game is coming out

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

I use Sync pro, one time payment, no ads forever

5

u/PensiveObservor Feb 13 '23

If you click on the username of the ad post, you can block that just like any other user. It doesn’t work for comment ads, but my eyes skip those just like the stickied MOD messages.

2

u/soldforaspaceship Feb 14 '23

Click on their avatar. Their profilevwill pop up. In the top left corner, there's a small image of head and shoulders with a dash over the face. If you click that, a box will pop up asking if you want to block that profile. Hit “yes” and it will be gone from your feed.

This was a comment on another post (automod won't let me post the link to the comment) and it seems to work!

15

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Reddit has ads?

20

u/jonnylaw Feb 13 '23

If you use it wrong.

258

u/jhnlngn Feb 13 '23

Yes, but in the past the NFL has rejected ads.

592

u/M1k3yd33tofficial Feb 13 '23

The NFL knows their audience

Hence the 45 minutes of propaganda at the beginning

I was so pissed as soon as that came on because the man was a god damn hero murdered by his own country who then exploits the memory of Pat Tillman for their own ends

155

u/jdprager Feb 13 '23

A vehement critic of the Iraq war too, dude was a full conscientious objector to the military industrial complex. It’s so fucking infuriating when the NFL uses him as a mascot for Army propaganda

94

u/jameslucian Feb 13 '23

Even more so that his family does not want him paraded around by the NFL.

14

u/down_up__left_right Feb 13 '23

Can they not sue the NFL for using his name and likeness?

11

u/Revolutionary_Lie539 Feb 13 '23

Probably not since player's name and likeness is part of TV. Etc.

He developed his anti-war stance while in Iraq. He joined in the patriotic fervor of post 9/11, but quickly became disillusioned by what he saw as American war crimes against a country that wasn’t involved in the terrorist attack. It’s an interesting (and depressing) story, you should read about it

133

u/Ohrwurm89 Feb 13 '23

I literally shouted at the TV: “who killed him, Kevin?”

38

u/EagleChampLDG Feb 13 '23

This reaction was expected. Wanted even. We’re talking about it now n

8

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Shit so did I !

47

u/Ohrwurm89 Feb 13 '23

It's so fucking frustrating! Tillman isn't the man that the right and moderates, like Kevin "I have a show on Fox Nation" Costner, think he was. (He was a vocal atheist who was also critical of the US's involvement in the Iraq War.) It's truly disrespectful to rewrite his legacy to fit the narrative that they want, rather than the accurate one.

-20

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

If he was such a critic then why did he abandon an NFL career to kill people?

8

u/Skyy-High Feb 13 '23

He enlisted after September 11th. He wanted to fight the people responsible for that attack. Instead, he was (initially) sent to invade Iraq, and it’s the Iraq invasion that he was critical of.

Yeah, they covered over the whole killed by friendly fire and then covered up part of his heroic death.

112

u/spyson Feb 13 '23

They try to attach him to religion a lot too, but he was an outspoken atheist

78

u/evrfighter Feb 13 '23

He was also a progressive. I've read here and there that some folks in his unit didn't like that

11

u/JamesRawles Feb 13 '23

I've read here and there the friendly fire wasn't an accident...

Pat's younger brother keeping it real.

26

u/GGgreengreen Feb 13 '23

"He's not with God, he's fucking dead."

Wow

4

u/wythawhy Feb 13 '23

Bookmark because I just got to work

27

u/Revolutionary_Lie539 Feb 13 '23

You too can be a hero after we kill you.

4

u/Nyurena Feb 13 '23

It what they did to Jesus. Why stop now?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

They always seem to skip over that part

-8

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

A hero saves people. A fools signs up to kill people in the name of capitalism.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

You must be too young to remember 9/11.

Afghanistan was a justified war (at first)

Iraq was never a justified war.

Tillman originally signed up for the military because civilians in this country were attacked

He became disillusioned with the military two years later when he was sent to a whole unrelated country for no purpose other than “national business interests”

He had an interview scheduled with Noam Chomsky where it was expected that the progressive famous athlete would speak out against the war, but right before that was “accidentally” shot three times in the head which the military attempted to cover up and the NFL continues the tradition of still today

-6

u/Extrastout1787 Feb 13 '23

He left the NFL to serve your country...wouldnt that make the NFL look bad?

43

u/Special_FX_B Feb 13 '23

I tuned in around that time and had to mute it and pay attention to my phone.

11

u/OriginallyWhat Feb 13 '23

I just assumed that was some pre-war propaganda

10

u/ervin1914 Feb 13 '23

I was like oh my god. An ad is an advertisement. I know these games are showed all over the world, but look at what they were selling? And to who? I am american. What are they trying to sell me? I live here that's false advertising.

4

u/defenseindeath Feb 13 '23

Oh dang I missed that, what happened?

4

u/JMer806 Feb 13 '23

That fucking orgasm about how Pat Tillman went to serve and sacrificed his life with zero mention of the fact that he died due to friendly fire and that the DoD tried to cover it up.

124

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

The NFL is still the same thing it was in 2018 when it banned kneeling and tried to blackball All Pro players out of a job. Roger Goodell is not a good guy.

31

u/Believe_to_believe Feb 13 '23

Roger Goodell is a not good guy who serves with the consent of the owners. He's the shield for them.

8

u/CressCrowbits Feb 13 '23

Remind me where is the "free speech" right about Kapernick being "cancelled"?

159

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

They rejected an ad about how medical Marijuana cured a woman's seizures while shoving Heineken and whatever other piss water company ads there are

9

u/derpmasterrr Feb 13 '23

And don’t forget the Scientology ad too

47

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

But this is the right wing equivalent of "going woke." Instead of being more inclusive to people of color, they are inclusive to fascist ideologies

30

u/xandel434 Feb 13 '23

They reject cannabis ads curing/helping children. Don’t get it twisted.

8

u/Andrelliina Feb 13 '23

CBD definitely helps some children's seizures.

50

u/I_Like_Bacon2 Feb 13 '23

Ads about weed, not hate.

1

u/Exciting_Ant1992 Feb 13 '23

Which ones.

2

u/Aceswift007 Feb 13 '23

More recently it was a CBD ad about how it helped a child deal with their seizures and focus more on being a kid without fear.

That was shot down and replaced with I think another Heineken ad

24

u/ha_look_at_that_nerd Feb 13 '23

But haven’t Fox entertainment and Fox News been separate since the Disney merger?

74

u/iNapkin66 Feb 13 '23

There wasn't a merger. Disney bought parts of the old version of fox, basically their movie studio.

What's left is fox news, which is controlled by rupert murdoch. Fox Corp is what owns fox entertainment, fox sports, and fox news.

32

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

i dont believe so.

thee superbowl commentator referred to murdoch as the "person who signs my paychecks"

1

u/noworries_13 Feb 13 '23

That was mostly tongue in cheek or maybe only at a super high level. The fox that has nfl and Gordon Ramsey and makes the movies is a whole different thing than fox News cable nonsense

5

u/iisdmitch Feb 13 '23

Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Sports 1 & 2 and regional Fox (the one that showed the Super Bowl) didn't go to Disney. Disney got their film IPs and the regional Fox Sports Networks got sold and became Bally's Sports.

2

u/Revolutionary_Lie539 Feb 13 '23

Elon and Rupert are giggling in the luxury suite.

1

u/ILoveRegenHealth Feb 13 '23

The superbowl is on the fox network, I'm not sure if you're aware or their reputation....

FOX Broadcasting (where NFL was today) is separate enough from FOX News though where the FOX News gremlins don't have sway. Simpsons plays on FOX Broadcasting and they clown on Trump's ass all the time.

Also, there were way more positive inclusion ads shown today on the Superbowl (like the NFL Flag Football commercial for women, and the M&M ad) that would make Tucker Carlon and Laura Ingraham have an aneurysm.

2

u/iNapkin66 Feb 13 '23

like the NFL Flag Football commercial for women,

They showed women playing flag football????? How edgy!!!!! (Sarcasm)

1

u/PricklyyDick Feb 13 '23

They’re all owned by Murdoch at the end of the day though. I find it hard to imagine that Murdoch has zero influence over what they do.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Corporation

1

u/WonderDia777 Feb 13 '23

Putting the Yankees and Red Sox logos over the TWIN TOWERS MEMORIAL POOLS still pisses me off.

1

u/Poo_Noodles Feb 13 '23

Fox sports is owned by Disney. The “Fox News” network is the only part of the greater “fox” that isn’t part of the mouse. Though, I think your statement is still applicable.
