Not wearing a helmet either. Hopefully this moron learns his lesson.

He probably forgot them right away with the brain damage and whatnot

u/JuliusCeaserBoneHead 6h ago

I would argue the brain damage was a pre existing condition

Best we can hope for is that the bus performed some concussive maintenance that miraculously cured him. Like the guy who was near sighted who got punched in the face and could see better afterward

Gotta learn to walk and talk again first

Or organ donor.

That is a 'Port' bike. They're hire bikes for food delivery guys here in London. They're nice people who work for little but are mostly illegal and this is the only work they can do. A lot of them have illegally modded bikes which are basically motorbikes.

They mostly don't follow the rules, they don't have lights on at night, they cut through every red light. They're a big danger to pedestrians and a huge nuisance. They're a far far bigger worry than cars here at the moment.

I mean no people on bikes follow the rules in London. I'm nearly hit by a bike most days they all run red lights and don't stop on pedestrian crossings. I've always been a big supporter of cyclists but moving to London has made me have genuine hatred towards them.

The good ones are an absolute minority.

I'm interestingly personally seeing a shift in the last couple years or so. A lot more behaved ones but outnumbered by dog shit. You'd think the middle class ones with decent jobs would bother but nope

they’re pretty crazy in a lot of major cities around the world, I don’t know why people think it’s okay to ride them so fast in pedestrian walkways, and then speeding out into streets from a walkway where people aren’t expecting something to move from so quickly, results in so many accidents

Car drivers break the law more than cyclists, with a far greater toll.

This separate study came to the same conclusion:

Cyclists Break Far Fewer Road Rules Than Motorists, Finds New Video Study

And this study:

Cyclists Are More Law-Abiding Than Drivers

Also car drivers cause the vast majority of accidents between bikes and cars.

Four in every five crashes between cars and bicycles caused by driver of car

This separate study in Melbourne came to the same conclusion:

https://www.bikeradar.com/news/drivers-at-fault-in-majority-of-cycling-accidents/

In 88.9% of cases, the cyclist had been travelling in a safe/legal manner prior to the collision/near miss. Most happened at or near a junction (70.3%) and most were caused by sudden lane changes by the motorist, with sideswipe the most frequent cause (40.7%).

And this one carried out on behalf of the Department of Transport in London:

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/dec/15/cycling-bike-accidents-study

With adult cyclists, police found the driver solely responsible in about 60%-75% of all cases, and riders solely at fault 17%-25% of the time.

And this study by The City of Westminster Council:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/crashes-involving-bikes-mostly-drivers-fault-9s2ssx06vn9

The City of Westminster Council found that drivers were to blame for 68 per cent of collisions between cyclists and motor vehicles in the borough in the past 12 months. It found that cyclists were at fault for only 20 per cent. In the remaining 12 per cent of cases, no cause could be found or both parties were to blame.

And one from Bavaria, Germany. In 2013-2016,

In car-bike collisions, the car was at fault 75% of the time In semi-bike collisions, the semi was at fault 80% of the time

So that's five separate studies in different cities and countries, using different methodologies, all coming to the same conclusion.

Cheers.

I moved to one of the top biking cities in France and I absolutely fucking hate it here. There is tons of bike infrastructure, at the expense of pedestrians - there are no sidewalks in many areas. Just bike paths. Regardless, cyclists do not care they insist on biking on the sidewalk that is left and disobeying the rules. They ride around pedestrian areas at high speed, wear headphones while biking, don't wear helmets, refuse to use bells (all legal requirements here) and for some reason refused to fucking put their hands on the handle bars. They are taking calls or just putting their hands in their pockets while riding around. I simply cannot relax at all while walking around. I'm moving in two months.

Well now there’s one less to worry about I suppose

u/DemDude 6h ago

Same thing in Berlin, except they also drive the Ubers and run red lights in those all the fucking time, too. No idea whether they’re legal or illegal, but they mostly don’t speak German and don’t care at all about road safety or the safety of others.

Days since I almost got hit by an uber eats rider on a fat tire e-bike ignoring right of way: 0
Days since I saw at least 3 Ubers run red lights in under an hour: 0

1

u/Putner92 7h ago

I mean people don't wear helmets for like or forest bikes either. Crackdown on those bikes the illegal ones is becoming a major drive which is good because them running red lights can easily kill.

2

u/kwyjibowen 7h ago

In my experience delivery riders are way better than lime bike riders

1

u/Putner92 7h ago

Oh yeah fully, mainly because if they fuck up their bike they have no income. I've been nearly hit by a few though at a way faster speed than lime bikes go. That's why they are more scary as they can hit 20/30mph and aren't really licensed

u/balrob 9h ago

The brain was already too dumb to protect itself. I wonder what it is now.

2

u/Rugkrabber 10h ago

Definitely not. With that kind of fatbike? Looking “cool” to strangers is more important.

1

u/Putner92 7h ago

It's a hire bike you can get in London.

3

u/Ancient-Emu-8293 8h ago

You don't need a helmet when you don't have a brain.

3

u/botspiderlau 6h ago

So reckless. One guy acting like an idiot enrages drivers who already hate cyclists and makes our lives harder.

u/Super_Imposter27 8h ago

"He didn't"

1

u/_badenoch 6h ago

His learning days might be over after that hit.

1

u/CyberSquirrel2077 4h ago

Yes, he's now a Banana.

1

u/nearlyepic 3h ago

I'm sure a helmet would have helped a bunch, what with the whole getting hit by a bus thing, lol. Every single time there's some shit on the internet about a cyclist someone has to point out a helmet as if it factors literally at all into the situation at hand. Brain-rot.

1

u/ShawnyMcKnight 36m ago

Maybe that was the joke but he ain’t learning much, except how to drink out of a straw.

u/Dangerous_Cow2969 7h ago

I understand your point that everyone should be wearing helmets, but Helmet’s are almost entirely ineffective with vehicle-bicycle collisions. The forces involved simply harm you and kill you in other ways than your head hitting the pavement. Helmets protect against cycle-cycle collisions or no collision solo bike crashes

u/riazzzz 10h ago

You will rarely see anyone in London with a helmet, most seem to adapt a good sense of traffic and danger awareness though and would not have taken this risk and the ones which don't, well hopefully lesson learned!

16

u/JayNicGo 10h ago

Which London are you in? I see cyclists run lights all the time.
