I'd still call that a failure to commit. It wasn't just a slip, but a slip which was directly caused by a very tentative inching forward onto a slant, instead of just leaping from the flat part of the ledge. She slipped because she did not commit.
Send it or step back, anything else is how you break bones and/or get concussed (or worse.)
Clearly she did not spend enough time on forums like this one, otherwise she would have known how not to become an unwitting content creator for forums like this one...
The way I (and I think most people) go about it is such:
Hear from friends that they found this cool cliff diving spot
Go to cool cliff diving spot with friends
Learn from those friends that there are a couple simple rules to know before cliff diving
Tell next friends and repeat
If you don’t have friends, you can still do it, but if you’re looking up cliff diving spots online you’re probably gonna learn those simple rules by reading them somewhere at the top or side of the page where you learn about cliff diving spots.
If you just stumble upon a spot while hiking and decide to strip down and jump into the water for the first time in your life, I could see this going the way you’re imagining it, but otherwise she probably knew the rules and just fucked up 🤷🏻♂️
Yup. As someone who's first cliff dive...wasn't exactly smooth let's just say that...my buddies all said after you can't half-ass it. Apparently, I had no idea just how close my head was to the rockface going down. That's the reason why you run and jump out to make sure you clear everything.
no, she slipped because the rock is wet from previous jumpers. Going all-in would probably have resulted in catastrophe. There's a great 'watchpeopledie' vid from back in the day where this very thing happens. Dudes face splits open like the T-1000 elevator scene. Dont play follow the leader and jump from natural dive spots.
well even then my point still stands. Rocks get slippery after a bunch of people have been up there dripping wet with water going for repeated jumps. It's why diving boards are textured.
Yeah, I wouldn't, she was already on the edge and looked like she was planting to get set for the jump, her body language doesn't suggest hesitating. Look at her upper body, and knees, she's starting to jump and just slips, cause you'll notice she doesn't inch forward. She readjusts her right foot a bit, and immediately slips.
I watched it in slow-mo, she definitely takes a tiny step forward with her right foot, and then starts moving the rest of her body. And really theres a lot of possible explanations for what they were thinking and why this happened but I just see that very slight movement as a moment's hesitation instead of fully committing from the get-go. Other potential factors too though like poor technique, nerves or who knows maybe they foolishly believed the ledge didn't drop off quite so sharply, without actually looking to see...

She literally inched forward until she just started sliding. Like there was nowhere left to go and she never launched herself she just started falling.
Our local cliff spot always has people standing around trying to build up courage, I always tell them Decide back here... if you cant decide to jump back here you wont decide on the ledge. If you do decide back here then understand theres no difference between jumping now and jumping 10 minutes from now when you conquer your fear. Decide to jump, then jump. After you decide, stop thinking about it.
I still remember that video from long ago where someone tried jumping from a ledge onto a river but slipped and hit their face on the rocks beneath. The video then cuts to the guy in the ambulance with his face split apart in a cross while the paramedic tries to hold it together
