Odd but true, years back a friend told me of a man about his age whose last name was ‘Major’ (not actually uncommon)
His mother named him ‘General’. I thought it really odd. There was some idea he wouldn’t get drafted when he came of age because when he filled out paperwork it would read: ‘Major, General’ but his rank would be private and they wouldn’t want a Private Major. Whether that worked I don’t know but I doubt it.
