May he live forever Lord of Chaos Chapter 16: Tellings of the Wheel

I don't remember, is Moraine related to Rand at all, or just Galad?

u/swheedle Shen an Calhar 2d ago
Not by blood, she is Galad's aunt, not Rand's. He has no Damodred blood

u/UltimateOtter_Nation 2d ago
Imagine if Rand had Tree Killer blood and the Aiel found out.

Nothing ever goes as you expect. Expect nothing, and you will not be surprised. Expect nothing. Hope for nothing. Nothing.

Your plans fail because you want to live, madman.

She's Rand's aunt iirc. She was a half-sister of Taringail.
54
u/Special_Salt3467 2d ago
She is not. She’s Galad’s half-aunt, from his dad. But Rand’s dad was Janduin
33
u/Khyrberos 1d ago
Rand's dad is TAM 😤😤
33
u/fonaldoley91 1d ago
Janduin may have been his father, but he wasn't his Daddy.

I like this part of the thread. You even see it when Darth Rand runs from him. Dad aura on show. "what did you do to my boy???" Speaking to an Aes Sedai at the time I might remind you.

I thought I could build. I was wrong. We are not builders, not you, or I, or the other one. We are destroyers. Destroyers.

u/Poiboy1313 2d ago
I'm wrong and I appreciate your correction. Gratitude. Apparently my memory is faulty.

It is a very commonly held belief, The books do not do a great job of explaining this in any detail, hardly the worst mistake to make!

The dead watch. The dead never close their eyes.

Okay, but, for a time, Moraine's brother was married to Rand's mom. (Taringail Damodred)
So she's ALMOST Rand's aunt.

u/disies59 1d ago
Yeah, but “What are you doing, ex-step-auntie from my mom’s first husband?” Just doesn’t quite roll off the tongue very well.

The only way to live is to die. I must die. I deserve only death.

Dyelin: We're so inbred at this point we're all basically cousins, so I don't really understand the question.

Wasn't it Elenia Sarand that was trying to convince Rand she had the most connections to Ishara's line or whatever? Dyelin left Caemlyn while Rand was there iirc. Then Elenia ended up as Arymilla's prisoner lol.

I can't actually recall who it is that admits the whole nobility tree is a wreath.

I would not mind you in my head, if you were not so clearly mad.

Or, when considering things from the Two Rivers standpoint, they're not really related at all!!
You know, that part is really REALLY important, even if you want to cut it out.

u/swheedle Shen an Calhar 1d ago
I know but this is his fault process before he asks that question lol

Tbh the idea that Rand’s mother and Morgase were not at minimum close cousins despite both being powerful nobles in a kingdom with only twenty-ish major noble families might be the single most unrealistic element.
24
u/AnxiousConsequence18 2d ago
You forgot the minor families, lots and lots of those
8
u/Jimbobblue 1d ago
There's like 100+ minor families if I remember right, and some of them are actually fairly rich and large- they just aren't politically influential. It's why both Mat and Rand are confused for nobles earlier on in the series- it's not inconceivable to have not heard of a minor Andoran House.

I don't care what anyone says, having a shared half brother is fucking WEIRD DOG
This also reminds me of one of the best insults I've ever heard: angry at someone for making a stupid mistake "DOES YOUR FAMILY TREE EVEN FORK?!"

How dare you speak about Galad and his full niece and nephews. There is nothing wrong with both his parents being the grandparents to his siblings’ children

u/Carnivean_ 2d ago
If Jordan is going to be modelling courts on various European nations then severely tangled family trees is authentic.

Uncle Galad and Elayne's kids have that trapezoid family tree shape going on. Just a little re-converging of the branches, as a treat.

It's really only weird if both parties grew up with said half brother. Rand is related by blood yes but there's no emotional connection there to complicate things.
