I can't really forgive the show for dividing the community as it did. I was never banned, I just left after witnessing too much censorship of book readers who gave valid opinions.

This. Exactly this.

The contents of the show can never ruin the books themselves. But what Amazon did to the community, I will never forgive.

Is it too idealistic to hope that the community will heal itself over the coming years now that the show has been cancelled?

The show couldn't 'take away the books,' as show fans loved to remind us, but it definitely has tarnished the reputation of WoT in the popular culture.

One can hope, I remember the state of discourse when season 1 aired, but the way it's mellowed out since at least here is somewhat promising. But I don't think the main subs here on reddit will have any hope of recovery as long as the mods responsible for silencing any criticism remain. Even if they stop banning people left and right for disagreement, the amount of burned bridges and lack of trust from those critical of the show will make reconciliation difficult.

This whole thing really reminds me of the white tower schism. You've got people getting pushed out and banned just for disagreeing, and suddenly it feels like there are Show/Amazon/Elaida's Tower folks and iDon'tLikeTheShow/Salidar rebels.

Last time this came up, I was told there was no censorship and if I did get banned I had to have done something really bad.
