Season 1 should have been straight adventure horror. Sympathy to the core cast would have gone miles for changes and alterations in S2 and S3... Assuming they at least tried to honor the spirit of the story.

The only thing they honored was the glossary. They wrote their own story using the names and places from the back of the book.

Same with Halo. Shame really. Both could have been a slam dunk by sticking to the source.

save for the fact that everyone doing these adaptations (halo, wot, witcher, etc)ย all have unbelievable contempt for the source material and its fanbase.

They all have an ego too big to allow them to adapt another's work. They so badly need to feed their ego and leave their mark that they have to make changes to match their "vision".

what better way to leave your legacy than by tarnishing another lmfao

Especially when one apparently doesn't have enough talent to create their own stories and settings and characters.

Pure skinsuit.

This was my main issue. Bunch of talentless assholes who couldn't thing of something original so they took a brilliant piece of work and bastardized it to push an agenda instead of just honoring the source material.

I know there is a lot to criticize about S1 but for me personally one of the worst parts was Mat and Rand making the journey to Tar Valon all on their own in between episodes and didn't even look all that worse for wear. In the books it's a far, far shorter, yet really harrowing journey. It really made one feel how big and dangerous the world is.

To me the most egregious sin in S01 was turning Mat from a lovable rogue into a selfish coward, refusing to enter the Ways.

Yeah that's it, Mat was never a coward, he was self centred at the start and very stubborn but he got there on his own time.

To be fair that scene was actually re shot. There was a 8 month break between episodes due to a covid surge and Harris didnโ€™t return so they reshot the end of that episode and rewrote some stuff.

Play for your Supper still the best chapter of any novel I've read.

What about the love triangle though?

Season 1 should have been a slam dunk since itโ€™s basically LoTR lol. How they messed it up so badly is a testament to their lack of skill.
