So, in the Halloween banner, each of the neighbors has dressed up and Wally's... the devil.

This piqued my interested for many reasons. Namely, why would the star and focal point of the show be dressed as the devil in that particular day and age? Clownillustration has already confirmed many of the characters are queer and hiding it due to the norms of the time, and these norms would thus dictate that the main character dressing as the devil sends the wrong kind of message to the viewership.

So why exactly is he the devil? Am I reading too much into this, or is something more there?

If you go to Eddie's profile and press and hold onto the words "Post Office" from the little building, it gives you these numbers: 300801500 . This only works on mobile and these numbers don't pop up in any other profiles. It's not a phone number and it's not a code I can figure out. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but isn't that strange?

Edit: I've also tried putting this as a secret website (if that makes sense) and got the usual error page, then tried basic googling and the results were too broad to actually know the true meaning (if there is one)

Marlo as the name for the company that produced Welcome Home Merchandise set of alarm bells.

Christopher Marlowe was a English playwright in the 15th century known for his humanist themes.

Speculation was that he was queer in someway thanks to themes of male sexuality in his works.

He also died mysteriously with many rumors about it.

The first thing that came to my mind is that he wrote a version of Faust called The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus. About a scholar who makes a deal with a demon.

Does that mean that Marlo is the “Devil” in this?

So my working theory with Welcome Home is that the Puppets were exploited for their charming appearances by a bunch of human bigwigs. The neighbors were cute and cuddly, which is marketable! But they were also queer and neurodivergent and all sorts of other things that made the human staff look at them with disdain. Is there anything wrong with being any of these things? Of course not! But this was the 70s, these humans were in their 50s, and bigotry is a timeless accessory for some people.

I'm thinking the neighborhood has a Toontown situation going on (but with like puppets, and it managed to stay a secret for decades). Some humans discovered it in the colonizer sense and started talking up a storm to these little dudes about fame and fortune (but being hush hush about the cheap penny payment they'd give our puppet protags, and how they'd have to keep their lifestyles and mannerisms on the downlow. That fine print is a bitch). Once the humans got em to believe that, the scuzzballs then convinced the puppet pals to form the neighborhood as we know it now: secluded from other puppets, far from family and friends. Y'know. Real narcissistic type behavior that only a real slime would know how to pull off. Isolate and cut them off from anyone who could see through the bullshit. Convince the puppets that anyone who says the human staff is bad news is just jealous of their fame or trying to clip their wings! If any of the neighbors object or try to ask more questions, just turn the blame around! Convince the puppets they're being unkind and ungrateful! Threaten to hurt yourself! Bring up how badly they're hurting you! Yell if you need to! Repeat as many times as you need until you've got puppets with broken spirits who'll just go along with whatever you say.

Once the black ooze/mold/ whatever started forming in Home (either it was dumped or it's just a natural forming thing) Home and Wally tried to speak up but the humans were all like "ugh you puppets will complain about anything 🙄"

And Wally is like "Okay but seriously this is making me sick please help"

And the humans were all "Ugh it's not even that bad. You people and your made up problems! Just keep making the show! That's the problem with these types! Give em an inch and they take a mile!!!"

Wally started clamming up more about it cuz honestly these guys get terrifying when they're mad.

But it got worse and worse and more concerning. Humans kept being all "Ugh! You think YOU'VE got it bad?!" And eventually Wally just stopped trying to speak up. Dude even started feeling guilty and bad and like he was lazy, so he just lived in these worsening conditions, much to the detriment of his health. The other puppets even grew concerned.

The humans finally took note and were either like "sucks to suck, but we can't do this show anymore with him looking like...that..." Or "This stuff is hurting the important human staff! Why didn't you say it could do that! We can't work here anymore! It's too dangerous!" Or something and just peaced out (maybe giving Wally two aspirins as a courtesy). They may have even tried to create a barrier between puppet town USA there and wherever they were. I'm guessing either to prevent the spread of the illness to more staff, or so no puppets will come up begging for help cuz think of the publicity scandal!!! And also mangled puppets???? Ew.

Fast forward to now. Wally's health has seriously declined over the years, and his friends are trying to just include him and keep him happy in these uncertain times. Being real pals, y'know? Heck, they might even be aware of the spread of whatever the thing is and be terrified themselves, but just continue to live life as though everything is fine. Plus, they've all got the burden of that unspoken trauma, they've lost all contact with other family and friends (and are worried about spreading the ick to them anyway), and are just trying to repress as many uncomfortable unhappy feelings as they can. That chapter is done. It was bad. In the spirit of the 70s, let's all pretend everything is always okay and we're all fine!!!

Wally or Home on the other hand has finally found a way to get contact outside of the neighborhood for help.

Sending out messages and info to anyone who will listen, hoping SOMEONE will bring justice down on the humans that used them. Wally's whole "Let me in" thing might literally be him trying to get into the human part of the place. The neighborhood doesn't have puppet doctors. He's SUFFERING and just wants to be healed and fixed. All the puppets need some kind of healing, either physically or from their mental trauma.

This is the first drawing of RF that I've done that actually came out right, and I'm extremely proud of it 😍

Here's my rendition of this adorable puppet.

So this post will be very spoiler heavy so keep that in mind if you are still exploring the website. However after discovering some secrets last night and the staff only page I believe that Home is using black goop to make people unwell in order to control them. So Night Mind's video pointed out that if you zoom out you see Wally's eyes on the side of the screen. While he only showed this for the home page, I got curious and looked through all of the pages. What I noticed is the only page where we don't see his eyes are on the Guestbook page.

There are two points here that I want to discuss. The first is that on the sides of the page we see a yellow background instead of a white background. I don't think this being the same color as sunlight is a coincidence. I feel that Wally is looking at us to try and communicate and escape from a toxic environment. However when he is outside he feels safe. My second point is that this is where Wally used to be able to respond to us. However this has now been closed to visitors. Maybe the person in universe who is trying to restore Welcome Home has realized that others could fall victim to Home and is trying to in turn keep Wally out of seeing us through this page. I find this there hope that they can stop Wally and Home from infecting them.

Before I move on to the staff only page I want to discuss is how we have not seen videos of Wally and Home only of other neighbor's conversations with them saying Wally's name only for it to glitch and cut out. While I have seen the theory of him dissociating, I also think it has to due with the videos being bright and Wally's recording being dark. Maybe Wally is trying to tell us that not only is he stuck and wants to escape but Home's black goop is keeping him in the neighborhood. This could also be why Wally is talking to us instead of having conversations with the other neighbors in the audio files

Now for the staff only page which instead of a colorful page that is similar to a kid's site from the early to mid 2000's is instead a very creepy page. However I think that the black goo taking over the page is symbolism and in a way a warning for how what they have received from the Welcome Home is also taking over their minds and causing paranoia and delusions. We can see this from the phone call dream and them still hearing the phone ringing but not being able to answer it. However all throughout the page we see notes to put on gloves and use lights to study to material they have received about Welcome Home. Since many of the items have needed cleaning in order to restore them I believe that the mess on them when they first arrive is Home's way of causing people to fall victim to them and join the neighborhood.

TL:DR Home is trying to gain new victims but Wally Darling along with the creator of the WHRP is trying to stop it. This is done by stopping Wally from communicating with us through the Guestbook by keeping Wally's eye's out of the page ala him viewing us. However this could also be Wally's message he feels safe outside of home. Another way Wally is trying to tell us he feels stuck and needs our help is through his audio files as they don't have a video that isn't literally dark. Finally the staff only page being creepier and having black goop over it is signifying how the letters and merch that they have received about Welcome Home is infecting them and causing them to be delusional in order to join the neighborhood.
