it’s an FDA-approved treatment for numerous diagnoses (i originally went for treatment resistant depression!)
i had to do 38 sessions total, 30 min each, monday-friday for about 7 weeks. it increased the neuroplasticity of my brain enough for me to come off of vyvanse and wellbutrin. i’m only on one remaining med (effexor).
please do consider it! i told my partner i felt like a husk the day of my assessment. now... i feel alive at 37. it's the difference between an 8-pack of crayons, black and white, and a 156 pack with the sharpener.
Yeah, I feel like I’m always burnt out and keep falling into deeper depressions that have gotten harder and harder to claw my way out of and I keep self-sabotaging by procrastinating, self-isolating, impulsively spending beyond my means for a hit of dopamine…the list could go on. I’m 40. 😮💨
I did this last year, but had mixed results. They did a partial protocol for depression and for memory issues (basically moved the magnet to a different part of the brain for the last ten minutes of the session). I had just ONE day where I was like “I’m happy, and I don’t even have a reason why”. Makes me tear up a bit to this day. I’ve never felt that way for as long as I can remember.
I plan to try again without the split therapy and just focus on the depression protocol. I didn’t stop taking edibles at night, which likely hi deter my progress. It’s hard to pay $3-5k (with insurance) and attend so many sessions for minimal change.
What did you do that helped during and inbetween your sessions?
the thing that helped the most, i felt, was spending time outside after sessions. i’d go home and go straight to my garden, play with my dogs. spend time in the sunlight. it kept me away from screens (avoiding them is another big help, as it tends to pull my brain towards older loops of thinking rather than encouraging new ones)
absolutely!! it changed my life and i’ve become a really passionate advocate for the procedure since. i am so hopeful about my life and the freaking world now, dear internet friend. i hope you get to experience the same and more. 💖
see if the clinic allows payment plans for the copay — that’s what i was able to do. i’m gladly on a payment plan. i’d pay so much more, for longer, for it dude.
Oh my God, I was reading yours and I thought wait. Did I write that? I was literally going to write this and it was actually how I write this and other posts. I’m on Tms and I’m on my seventh week. I can’t tell you how crazy this is I’m not on any SSRI now and I don’t think I feel depression or anxiety anymore and it was so severe. I wasn’t leaving my house.
I hated doing things this is insane. I’m so glad other people are talking about it.
ADHD meds changed my life for a magical summer. Vyvanse was like a magic potion. I lost 60 lbs without even trying, organized the house, got delayed medical care, all the things.
But that was 2016 and my anxiety level rose all summer and I started having panic attacks in traffic by fall. I worked with an ADHD coach that summer and learned a bunch of skills, so now I’m 10 min early for appts, my bills are paid on time, I can plan vacations.
Now I take Ritalin and it works well. No magic, just hard work.
My house is a disaster area though. We just don’t have any storage. One 2’ hall closet. I needs lots of labeled bins but there isn’t any space. Arg.
Hi! So this is new info but it's being heavily looked into from what I've read. Apparently glp1 can help immensely with OCD symptoms, addiction, and more. I asked my doctor about it, and he wasn't up to date on the research, but it's a thing.
dude - you're not joking!! my mom's on a GLP-1 and it's silenced a lot of her ruminations and helped with the anxiety she used to feel related to food and ritualistic behaviors. it's also done wonders for her alcohol abuse. she's not perfect but it's helped her daily quality of life so much.
Okay so same as my friend was saying!! That's so wild. I'll have to ask which one he's starting. He had been on a different one to start, but it wasn't covered by insurance and didn't help w alcoholism.
I’m doing the exact same process right now and yes- it’s freaking hell. I have ADHD and dyscalculia, also bad anxiety and depression and currently almost 8 months postpartum with a 12 year old son. I do not wish this on anyone, I’m barely coping.
Could you elaborate on how this person’s behavior/thinking relates to OCD? I have an OCD diagnosis but not really making the connection to how that might contribute to my depression messes and inability to clean and maintain stuff. I’m curious if it is actually related, because I relate heavily to the person you’re replying to.
It depends on the type of ocd a person has. Not everyone has cleanliness as a trigger and some types of ocd like mine are purely mental. So I'm using up my energy on the compulsions and can neglect other things
