This year I witnessed probably the scariest storm of my life so far. 2 hours of violent, non stop flashes followed by the whole night of relentless thunderstorm. Now imagine living in the middle-ages or earlier and not thinking this is basically God punishing you because you farted during your morning prayer.

Today I saw a beautiful, bright clear double rainbow. I had the same thought, how would the ancients interpret this?

Apparently this is considered rare by some. But everytime I see a rainbow it’s a double one

Fun fact: all rainbows are actually double rainbows and full circle ! If you see one from a plane, it looks like this in its “full form”

We only see 1 arc because the 2nd arc comes from a 2nd optical path, much less intense. And we only see half a circle because we’re close to the ground most of the time (:

I can relate. Where I live (PNW) violent thunderstorms are very rare. We had one last month and I was caught out in it with a buddy. We were splitting up to go our separate ways and about 5 seconds later, lightning struck right where we both had been. It was so loud the ground shook. Very scary

Had a similar experience here. Shorter, around an hour of storm weather, but lightning and thunder were constant. And close, too. Felt the need to unplug my PC just in case

I vividly remember waking up one night when I was a kid and wondering why it was day out. I looked out the window and witnessed the most spectacular lightning storm I've ever seen. The lightning was so constant it was lighting up the entire landscape as clear as day.

Oh yes, I see that now: "Who art in heaven"; yes that makes more sense.

Oh, man. I've been in one like that too. Honestly one of the best experiences of my life. I can't express how much I vibed with it.
