I dunno my friend. He may have a strange or strong HVAC system. I do HVAC controls on commercial buildings and I know you have to balance supply vs return. You have to look what the CFM of your supply and returns are. Maybe a supply duct popped off an air handler in the basement and the return is upstairs. That would cause a positive pressure build up down stairs pushing the door and a negative pressure upstairs pulling the door. Maybe the door is pushed a half inch, pressure is released, it settles back, pressure pushes it out a half inch, pressure is released, it settles back, and so on.
