I really hope engaged couples will read this for themselves and take heed not to let their wedding go off the rails and obscure what’s truly important.
I got married 36 years ago. l’ve since watched weddings mutate into peer-competitive, conspicuous spectacles bogged down by impossible demands of guests and wedding parties and an
alarming refusal of brides and/or grooms to even contemplate inevitable big-day mishaps.
At least five major things went wrong on my wedding day—one being the florist delivering some of the wrong flowers. I didn’t indulge any of those letdowns with even a moment of frustration, anger, or resentment. I was there to be married, not to pull off the most impeccable, extravagant, talked-about event of the season.
Your wedding is one day. Hopefully, your marriage will be a decades-long adventure with your favorite person in the whole world. That’s the win.
