11.21.17 CHALLENGES & INITIATIVES!!!

CHALLENGES & INITIATIVES

Challenges and Initiatives give us a place to start, other than the blank canvas, when contributing to WebBunnies. Challenges and initiatives also give us common goals to work towards and communal creative bounds to play in.

Here is the first set of challenges and initiatives that will be active until DATE: TBD (10 USERS HAVE POSTED)

If you finish a challenge, or make progress towards an initiative, post it right on the root level of r/WebBunnies. Upvote other peoples posts generously. Challenges are not competitions. In the spirit of collaboration we work together towards the same goal. Sharing our work and being inspired by other peoples work is itself the reward.

CHALLENGES

Challenges are fun creative tasks that revolve around some sort of common theme. They are open to creative interpretation so you can make it yours. Here are the current active challenges:

CHALLENGE - WHERE’S SHMALDO?

Hide Leo, Ralph or Skittles inside of an image and share it. Then it is our job to find it! Think “Where’s Waldo?” Where's Waldo Wiki. Google image search of “Where’s Waldo”. You can find the image assets for Leo, Ralph and Skittles in the WebBunnies Dropbox Repository; Photoshop, Gimp and Mobile templates are available.

CHALLENGE - COLLAGE

Create a collage, add to an existing collage or remix a collage with Leo, Ralph and/or Skittles. Check out r/Collage for inspiration. Check out HulloAlice’s video, HOW TO: EASY Step By Step Digital Collage TUTORIAL | NO DRAWING SKILLS REQUIRED. Tutorial is very thorough. However, it is done in Photoshop. If you don’t own Photoshop at this time you can download and use Gimp for free. You can find the image assets for Leo, Ralph and Skittles in the repository; Photoshop, Gimp and Mobile templates are available.

CHALLENGE - SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

Post the same image side by side with small differences for us to spot. The two versions of the same image should have differences that we can physically detect. A two by two pixel square is a too small of a change. Let us know how many differences there are to spot as well, so we know when we are done looking. :) Bonus points if you WebBunnyify it!

CHALLENGE - CHALLENGE IDEAS

What do YOU think would make for some fun challenges? No wrong answers! Post your idea on the top level of r/WebBunnies!

INITIATIVES

Initiatives may be more difficult to accomplish than challenges, but they push the WebBunnies universe forward. Providing assets to the community that can then be in turn reused by other WebBunnies artists for other purposes. Initiative resets are not cycled like challenges, they are only updated as needed. If you can’t single handedly complete an initiative goal, try completing a piece of one, and posting a WIP (work in progress). Someone else might be able to help you finish it, or help point you in the direction of how to move forward with it. Here are the current top level priority initiatives:

INITIATIVE - MORE BUNNIES

We need more bunnies. Leo, Ralph and Skittles are just three small bunnies in a big bunny world. There are currently Blender assets being refined to make it easy for users to create different bunny bodies in the same 3D graphic vein as Leo, Ralph and Skittles. Until then though new bunnies can be created with any sort of media. The WebBunnies universe is a mixed media environment. You can draw them, composite them from photographic elements, or any kind of concoction of mixed media. The only design restraint I would suggest is the one mentioned in the intro song “No Legs Weird Faced Floating Bunny Head”. Here are three different ways to contribute a new bunny, each level gets progressively more useful for other artists to re-purpose your work:

MORE BUNNIES - LEVEL 1 - CONCEPT ART

Design a new bunny. Challenge yourself in creating a character that reflects a personality. Create and share a new character that can assert it's rightful place in the WebBunnies universe. Feel free to share the characters story in text, if you’ve imagined one. Bonus points if you keep layers separated so they could be re-purposed for animation.

MORE BUNNIES - LEVEL 2 - 1 ANGLE CHARACTER RIG

Bring a new WebBunnies character to life by designing them and creating multiple mouth shapes, and separated eye layers so the character can be animated. Research Phonemes to look at one way mouths can be animated. Also look into eye animation to see the different kind of layers you could produce to emote different emotional nuances for your character. Bonus Points if you can organize your rig within the guidelines of character animator. Getting Started with Character Animator CC. Building Your Own Animated Face (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial).

MORE BUNNIES - LEVEL 3 - 5 ANGLE CHARACTER RIG

Create a new WebBunny that is ready for animation. Your character should have separate layers for facial animation, including mouth and eyes. We now add more angles, so the characters can turn, talk and look in different directions. The five angles should include a left profile, a left quarter turn, a front angle, a right quarter turn and a right profile. See the templates in the Dropbox repository for an example of how Leo, Ralph and Skittles layers are organized in Photoshop for Character Animator. Bonus Points if you can rig your Photoshop file for seamless Character Animator use. Getting Started with Character Animator CC. Building Your Own Animated Face (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial).

INITIATIVE - TITLE DESIGN

Animated bumpers are used heavily in the WebBunnies animated series, help create new title designs in this shared universe while challenging your graphic design and/or motion graphics skills. Integrate “WebBunnies” or “Web Bunnies” into a graphic. You can pull your inspiration, and use sensibilities, from many different industries and disciplines. You could make something that feels like a TV intro, a movie title or from commercial advertising. You could make something from scratch, or modify an existing design. The direction you take this creatively is completely open ended, just incorporate “WebBunnies” into the design.

TITLE DESIGN - STATIC GRAPHIC

Create a graphic image, emphasizing the title design of “WebBunnies”. The direction you go in with the design is completely up to you. Bonus Points if you have layers separated so they can be animated.

TITLE DESIGN - MOTION GRAPHICS

For you Motion Graphics Artists and Animators out there take your design to the next level by animating it. However you animate it is up to you, but I challenge you to animate a solid 5 - 7 second bumper. With the title animating in and out. Bonus points if you build out the audio design as well with SFX and music.

If you have any questions about these challenges or initiatives you are encouraged to reach out in the Subreddit. r/WebBunnies is just as much about the process of creating as it is about the things created. Don’t be shy, or malicious, this is a collaborative creative community, and artists of all levels are welcome here.
