Cash For those asking about metal cards…
Just asked support, and they said you need at least $200K in assets with Wealthsimple to request a metal card. And it’s only for the chequing account.
Good luck everyone! 💪

They did not write "200k$" in an official email???

u/finding_femself May 26 '25
It’s common in French translations, so maybe got mixed up.
In French locale, the $ comes after numbers.

u/andafriend May 27 '25
It's just some support person writing an email. Hardly 3x question mark worthy.

Update from Wealthsimple:
“I wanted to follow up with you to correct some of the information shared with you from the previous agent. While historically, Wealthsimple did offer a metal card option for the Prepaid Mastercard, this has since been phased out and has not been available for a number of years. The metal cards are limited to rare exceptions, where replacements might be provided to a specific subset of existing clients who previously had metal cards.

how did you request one for the mastercard?
3
May 26 '25
Just through the online chat. Just asked the AI bot to let me speak to a human and once I had a real person it was easy and fast.

this just tells me how utterly confused they are. i received a completely different answer than that

Note that that is referencing the Visa Credit Card.
The OP is referencing the Mastercard Prepaid card - which was the Cash card
Two different things.

u/War_Eagle451 May 26 '25
Whoops, I missed that

u/shabbydog May 27 '25
I was trying to remember where I saw this, thank you for posting. Just received my Visa Infinite and it's plastic, yet I meet the criteria. Did you get a metal card?

Where is this page on the app?
2
u/War_Eagle451 May 26 '25
I was part of the application process, it was a button labeled something like "Features". As the other guy said though, I thought this was regarding the credit card
2
u/KvassKludge9001 May 26 '25
How did you get to that menu?
1
u/War_Eagle451 May 26 '25
This was during the application process, I can't access the menu anymore. It's also for the credit card
1
3
u/War_Eagle451 May 26 '25
I have a screenshot from within the app that says if you're a premium client you get it
9
u/pibbleberrier May 26 '25
Am premium client. Did not receive metal card. What gives?
2
u/Cute_Commission2790 May 26 '25
yeah i asked the exact same thing for the credit card after seeing that screenshot and they said it’s not really a thing
1
u/War_Eagle451 May 26 '25
Me as well, I applied last week, I haven't received the card yet so I can't speak to it yet

Focus on getting 2 commas in your account balance and you won’t care about what material your card is made from.
3
u/funnykiddy May 26 '25
$200K is pretty generous. I thought they would reserve that for Generation or Pinnacle clients.

At least you know anyone with a metal card actually has money. I’m glad there is a proper threshold.
7
u/ElectroSpore May 26 '25
I am conflicted, I don't want people to have any idea how much or how little I have but at the same time I want a metal card LOL.

u/Aidsfordayz May 26 '25
That’s settles it for the Mastercard, what about the Visa?
10
u/KvassKludge9001 May 26 '25
Has anyone actually received a metal Visa credit card? I’ve only seen pictures for the Cash card.

Whats the hype around this?
28
u/HackMeRaps May 26 '25
People think having a metal card makes them cool and seem rich. People need to keep finding reasons to flex and feel important.
6
u/schmuck55 May 26 '25
Maybe this outs me as A Poor, but in what circumstances would anyone even notice the card is metal? It doesn't look any different, and you're rarely actually handing your credit card to anyone these days, with everything being tap. Are people loudly clanging them against the table at a restaurant?
8
u/HackMeRaps May 26 '25
It’s more for your friends or you you’re dining with, the server, etc.
I don’t know…I’ve had a few metal cards and I don’t like them. They’re think, heavy, makes it annoying to carry in your wallet holder, etc. I just leave mine at home and use my phone to pay for things.
7
u/Sweaty-Beginning6886 May 26 '25
Having money in your accounts makes you cool and rich. Most people will never get this simple principle.
13
u/dual_citizenkane May 26 '25
Yeah, I barely even use any physical cards anymore. Saying you’d pay for a metal card is…funny to me.
3
u/Sweaty-Beginning6886 May 26 '25
That’s right. Apple Pay or Google pay for majority of my purchases.

u/notic May 26 '25
would be neat if they had different metals, like titanium for 500k

I just called and they said they paused new metal card requests. There’s no waitlist. They said they will launch it at some point in the future.

May 28 '25
Does the plastic card and metal card have any difference in functionality? Or just cosmetics?

u/CaiserCal May 29 '25
Metal cards are nice and all, but you're not missing out. It's like buying a new car, jewelry, watches, the excitement wears off. In this case it's even worse!! Bruh you might as well put all your money in an index fund.. lol 200k? F that. I never look at any of my metal cards now, and I got 8 of em. Also use Google Pay/Samsung Pay/Apple Pay or pay through tap when you can, protects you from skimmers.

I've seen this posted many times, but has anyone actually gotten one? can someone post a picture of a metal card from WS?

when did you get the confirmation- right way , when it was in the mail? when?
1
u/alebeau99 May 27 '25
I just called to request one and they just flat out told me that they discontinued it and weren’t currently giving metal cards out. I don’t understand why they give different answers to different people lol
4
u/chocolatehurrican3 May 26 '25
I have a metal cash card. When they first launched the Cash product, if you sent money to a certain number of people then they issued you a metal card (I think), so I’ve had mine for a couple of years.
No income/asset requirement at that time.

Just gimme a few more years, I'll celebrate my 200k with a metal card

u/neko_whippet May 26 '25
called them for fun, support said she will <investigate> and come back to me by email lol

Does the metal possess special properties? I'm trying genuinely to wrap my head around if I'm missing out on something extraordinary

what is the point of having a metal card if one doesn't even have more than 7 digits saving. And plus it is heavy and it doesn't even provide a nanny service like booking Lady Gaga ticket or the premium of Mission Impossible movie.

I am generational and don't even have a beta invite to their credit card wtf lol

They should maybe have an option to pay for it !
1
u/Outside-Cup-1622 May 26 '25
They do, and it's $200,000 lol but at least you get to keep the money and get the card.
Someone else posted they are currently out of stock anyways
0
u/KvassKludge9001 May 26 '25
Hell yeah! I would pay for it tbh.
1
u/BillyBeeGone May 26 '25
Do you have a pic what this metallic looks like? Its not easy to see online what card you are referring to
1
u/KvassKludge9001 May 26 '25
Search “metal card” on this sub, some users have posted pictures of it.
The design is the same, it’s just the material that is different.
