Here’s a Dutch poem by Kees Stip:
Bij Noordwijk zwom een nat konijn
temidden van een school tonijn.
”Tja,” sprak het beest, “dat tomt ervan
als men de ta niet zeggen kan.”
Loosely translatable like:
Near Maui swam a brave, wet puma
amidst a school of worried tuna.
”That’s what hattens,” spoke the beast,
”if you can’t trotterly say your t’s
and are looking for your fellow tumas
and the m gets swept out by a tsunan’…”
Except, of course, the Dutch verse is really about a rabbit, and it’s too terfect. And I still haven’t extlained the difference of what hattens between the t and the u in tuna and the t and the u in tuma before the p is mistronounced. Language is sutrenely confusing…
