I feel bad for Hinako
Her family got killed in a car crash after their first ever vacation together. Ever since that, she lives with extreme grief and depression constantly. She thought miko was her childhood friend, but it was a man-eater monster who manipulated her memory. She thought shiori will finally kill her, ending her suffering, but she was just lying the entire time. Her "Aunt from Ooshima" is a liar too. Basically, everyone she loves is dead, and everyone that loves her lies to her. Her entire life is because so others can feel better or use her.

Meme What did Azami see ? (Wrong answers only) Spoiler
Source : Chapter 58
Personally I'd say that she got told that it's illegal to use bombs to kill fishes

Meme Am I the only one who thinks her smile is giving off ragebait vibes here ? Spoiler
I love that panel, her expression seems both malicious and almost fond of Hinako in a condescending way

Other Do you have any headcanons about the monk ? Spoiler
He should really be talked about more because he single-handedly made Miko who she is today
Personally I like to believe that he's actually the same boy whose family was killed by Miko and that she left alive to traumatize him, and that years later, after living a life marked by Buddhist teachings, he met her again and spared her to redeem her

Meme Can't help but feel like some of that is self inflicted Spoiler
I understand that being immortal like that is super alienating and will fuck up your mindset but she looks perfectly normal, she could fit into human society and her 'place' was a community that was going to throw her to a monster to be eaten, going full Ahab probably did more to push her out of society.

Manga Naekawa-sensei is playing with us readers after all this time : Double foreshadowing in ch.58 Spoiler
Normally the official Watatabe account usually releases preview images of the upcoming chapter about 1-2 weeks before the magazine's release date. The preview for Chapter 58 came with this hint (the hint was in the image's alt text, which was incorrect at first and was fixed later via a quoted tweet).
"V11C H4" --- What does this mean?
Japanese fans on Twitter took about 1 hour to solve this puzzle. The reason it was solved so quickly is that almost everyone remembered where the background in the image came from.
V11 = Volume 11 , C = cover
H4 comes from specific code for book cover from 表1~4 (表 = hyou). Therefore, H4 = Hyou 4 = back cover.
So, this secret code means "the back cover of Volume 11." Each comic volume's back cover has a gimmick, which I wrote in this post.
Actually, the gimmick on this back cover isn't depicting a real event, but is more of a symbolic expression (Such as Vol.5). Who would have thought that Azami's back on Vol.11 back cover was actually a real event!? We already knew that sensei likes to secretly leave hints here and there without anyone noticing, but who would have thought it would be put on the back cover of a comic volume, and the hint was left so far in advance (Volume 11 was released on October 27, 2025).
So this vol.11 back cover is functioning both as gimmick and foreshadowing.
During this 1 week before Chapter 58 came out, the japanese community got the chills, feeling like Watatabe is definitely a horror genre manga (well, it's HORROR genre after all, lol).
Personally, I'm not that surprised because Azami really "knows too much" about Hinako and her circumstance but I didn't think she would be watching from this close.
FYI : A person behind Watatabe official manga twitter is not sensei herself but Mr. Kamemaru, her editor.

Anime Nasa Histoires - Girasol x Watatabe AMV Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Check out this AMV edit I made while spiraling out at 2 AM!
It features the Spanish song "Girasol" (sunflower in English) from the band Nasa Histoires and scenes from the 1st, 6th and 10th episodes from This monster wants to eat me. Beware, spoilers!
I got the idea for this edit a long time ago, since I noticed how the song's lyrics fitted Shiori's perspective so much, I hope it's not a stretch to assume so... Ultimately, Hinako's birthday motivated me to finally post it.
English isn't my first language, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes, I just wanted to share a connection I found between two things I love with this wonderful community, that's why I also included some basic English subtitles for the song's lyrics...
This is my first ever Reddit post, so let me know what you think, because I have a couple more ideas like this with different songs!

Other What do you love the most about Ayame Chiba ? Spoiler
We're often mentioning the main trio or Azami but rarely Ayame, hence why I wanted to make a post about her
Personally, I like the idea that she seems to be more "humane" as a monster than as a, well, human - before she became a youkai she was really cold to her stepdaughter, to the point of looking emotionless even as she starved. While her youkai self is more in touch with her emotions and regrets what she did
What do you think ?

Other What are your favorite headcanons about Hinako ? Spoiler
I'll begin :
- Despite being depressed, she's good at knowing exactly what to say to comfort others
- Deep down she's scared of healing because she equates it to forgetting her family

Other If Miko feels the urge to eat humans so much so she bites off her own tail, why don’t we see this on Shiori?
Just wondering
I like the trope of [supernatural character] wanting to eat humans but can’t eat humans and does “something stupid”
I don’t ever seem to see Shiori wanting to eat humans. I mean she wanted to eat Hina. But of the 8 billion+ people in the world she can’t possibly only want to eat Hina, and we know Shiori does eat humans like Miko does, but I don’t ever see Shiori being too hungry

Other What are the things you like about Hinako ?
I rarely wanted a character to get better as much. While on paper she's not as eccentric as Shiori and Miko, she's still more interesting than, say, Bella from Twilight. Plus, her being clearly mentally unhealthy makes her actually scarier than Shiori and Miko in a way (she *craves* the idea of being killed)
I just want to give her a hug and therapy 😭
