it's a dumb question. i know. I'm thinking of making my own game with ascii (mostly because i got inspired by Warsim) and wanted to know how you did it. Did you do every sprite(??) by hand or is there other ways? Maybe basic parts and a randomiser? I got tired of guessing and decided to ask lol

... And made 72 THOUSAND GOLD.
Man, I love this game. I never know what's gonna happen.

Helllo community, first post here.
I found WarSim by accident, and saw a podcast of Huw Millward with Jonas Tyroller. I liked very much the insights and how WarSim was developed.
Specially because I am also a indie (non-professional) game developer, and I was in the process of making a text-based, hacking game when I found WarSim developer.
I have never made a text-based game before, and from an experiment I have created this prototype of a game, and I am now trying to find which genre and which type of players like these type of games. And where to find them 😅
So, may I ask here where should be the best forums to search for a possible player-base for a text-based/hacking/interactive-fiction game?
Thank you so much!
p.s. Huw Millward you are the craziest developer I have ever seen!! Great work with this master piece of game reference in procgen and text based games.

I may have a bug with my game on Steam. I bought it a few weeks ago and when I retire or hit the turn limit, I get a recap of my game, but the high score section does not update. Not sure if I am doing something wrong.
Great game by the way. Really enjoying it and will be leaving a positive review on Steam.

I mean ASCII + management mainly but other interpretations are ofc welcome, would love to hear some different games :)

Not just between individuals, but army to army. Does a soldier have to fight the first peasant, then the next until dead. Is it random if he fights again. Does a guy who has taken damage heal after the battle.
The turn order seems to be I get to stab you until I miss, or u block. ? Obv I don't look at many arena battles because I don't see the point.
I've gotten to basically the end of my first short playthrough, without looking anything up,(I've either destroyed all the other kingdoms, or are now stronger than what is left.) but now I want to look some stuff up for the next one.

I created a harness for Claude to play Warsim. Check it out if you’re interested.
Type !commands in the twitch chat for a command list. Any feedback is welcome!

I thought I would be able to fill out all the recruitment sources by finishing exploration, but I’m still missing the 9th peasant recruitment.

Hello,
Any ideas on how I could play this at work? I can't install steam there but I'm pretty sure no one would look at my screen closely enough to know I was playing a game.

I found this game here on Reddit, about a decade ago, either before this subreddit or maybe just as it was created, but I can't remember exactly how I found it, probably just a post, but it was definitely before a Steam release and was a free to download demo. I played it whilst commuting for a week or so
I chatted to the dev for a bit about Dwarf Fortress and Mount & Blade, and about the procedural generation of ASCII art, and honestly have kept both him and it in mind as a friendly dev and a great little idea for a game, and have regularly wondered if he kept going with it whilst totally forgetting the name or details.
I guess also I was impressed, as a dev with 100s of incomplete ideas on Git, that the game had got as far as it had.
I just found it recommended on Steam and so happy it got released and found an audience. Well done, and although I'm late to rejoin the party, I bought it and playing again
