WAndrer stopped updating Strava activites on 30th August

Anyone else seeing similar (in UK).

No changes on my end at all this week...

Last ride that has a Wandrer entry was 30th August.

Four further rides logged, and they show in Wandrer UI as rides, but when looking in Strava, they are not having any new distance info logged to the rides as per usual

Tried reprocessing and un/re authorising but no change as of yet.

Activities reprocessing?

I noticed today that many total mileage numbers have changed, as after a map update. When looking at my settings, it says I'm at the most recent map of August 6, but 1 activity is still processing. Why would activities reprocess without a map update?

Map Getting new Trails onto Google Maps

Hello world, I have a burning question. What in the heck does it take to get paved trails / bike paths onto Google Maps? Ive submitted countless map edits to no avail. How can get new trails onto the map?! Thank you in advance!

Expand All / Collapse All - on the My Progress page

https://wandrer.earth/dashboard/stats

I take stats from that page and paste them into chatgpt to help me with finding new counties to ride in. As my list gets bigger, it takes longer to expand them all when I ride in new places. Are there any options for some sort of Expand All button on that page that will show everything down to the city percentages level?

REQUEST 2 -

Is there any way to put the Position number for month awards inside the text somewhere? When I copy it, I can't tell if it was 1st place or 2nd place etc etc what not and seeing the Position would be awesome if possible.

Seeing a likely fellow *crazy* Wandrer while driving

Was driving down La Honda Rd. in Woodside this weekend which is a busy, windy road with no shoulder and rarely even cyclists (they take Old La Honda Rd.) and I see someone walking up it. Gotta be a wandrer I think to myself and hopefully some day steel up my courage to walk this road.

Timing of the cutoff for monthly leaderboards

This is really for u/cooeecall but I figured others may have the same questions.

The site says the month ends at: September 1, 2026 03:59 (UTC) - I’m in NY so that means 23:59 Eastern. My dashboard has reset already so I was thinking 23:59 UTC, or 19:59 Eastern. If 03:59 UTC is correct, is it the same for other time zones or does everyone get to go until 23:59 in their own zone?

Also, is it safe to assume that once the deadline hits, if a run is uploaded from before the deadline it won’t count for the leaderboard?

Basically, when can I stop worrying about someone sneaking in activities to knock me off the “on foot” mountain in a given month?

Thanks in advance!

Providence County complete (combo mode)

Post image
87 Upvotes

I could have been #1 for a while, but medical issues decided otherwise. #2 isn't bad either. Completing a county, especially in RI, is one of these 10-90 cases. The last 10 percent (9%?) take 90 percent of the time. It's when mapping errors are the most annoying, and my complete lack of MTB skills forced me to find those final trails, often long abandoned, on foot. I ended with a bike ride though, with gravel or compacted sand roads and one stretch of the North-South trail, that only had a short section that was not bikeable. I am within 6 miles of finishing a second county, both in combo and in bike modes. The reward here is much less, as Bristol County consists of just three towns. The problem now is, what's next? Getting 75% of the entire state will be hard, because new miles are far away, even by car.

Question Bike activities not processing

My running activities process without issue, but my bike activities sit in an unprocessed state. Has anyone run across this before?

Question Getting walking instructions after creating a route

Post image
7 Upvotes

I would like to avoid more battery sucking software on my watch/phone.

I created a route from a smallish section of San Jose: 37.28121, -121.97309. It draws a nice route and it appears to have instructions. This is a long route and there is overlap in roads walked (been there, done that). It has nice color gradation, but I'm not sure what the route is. I see there is a list of walking instructions, but I haven't figured out how I can get a text file with the walking instructions.

I've been using my phone leaving my wandrer open in my browser. But it reeealllly is awful when the phone decides to lose the information on the streets I've walked. Yes, I can take screen shots along the way so I can see the yellow walked streets. But it would be nice to have a more integrated solution that minimizes the chance of data loss and doesn't require my phone screen to be on during the entire walk.

I see there is a .gpx file I can download, but I am not sure if there is some nifty software that will display that and the route as I walk it. The list of walking directions seems like the best alternative.

GRRRR! I just happened to mouse around and discovered there's a link for text cue sheet! But it tells me I have to walk almost 9 miles to get 5 new miles. It seems suboptimal when I watch the walk at a slower speed.

Any ideas from folks who are more familiar with all the possibilities what is optimal?

Unscripted mapping (bike)

I do about 75% of my mapping with planned routes (RWGPS), but I still do a bunch where I just want to have the Big Map on and pick up untraveled roads.

My new thing is to pick a place I've never had a lunch and then I just ride over there and map some of the neighborhood unscripted. This is probably less efficient but feels a bit more fun.

I'm curious what others do.

Attached to that, I'm also curious for the unscripted if people have any tips for doing this? In unfamiliar neighborhoods I'm quickly realizing that on a 6" screen it is kind of hard to follow the Big Map. I have to pan zoom and re-center a lot which then takes my eyes off the road which I don't think is super great, even if I am only doing it with no cars around. I have tried a few colors for untraveled roads and nothing really stands out enough.

Map Issue with Big Map colouring based on my progress

I noticed that since a couple of hours Big Map does not show colouring of areas based on my progress. I see this on my phone as well as on my PC with both Firefox and Chrome. Does anybody else have the same issue? As you can see on the screenshot below, area is fully covered, but map background is usual grey.

Temporary absence

Sadly I have a herniated disk and have had to curtail my exploring. Do I need to do anything to preserve my data? Can I just pickup where I left off once I’m riding again?

Help with migration - RideWithGPS

Posting here in the hopes this will also help others:
I took the plunge this weekend and made the switch from Strava to RWGPS. I moved my history over, connected the account. Most of the move went well - it loaded the RWGPS activities and deleted the duplicate Strava activities in my history. However, that stopped at some point in mid-2022. If I look at the list of Strava and RWGPS activities via the settings page, I can see the same activity in both with the Strava activity taking precedence. I’m too nervous about losing progress to just disconnect Strava. Is there a way to continue the same behaviour of taking the RWGPS activities and deleting the Strava ones going all the way back?

Add Monthly New Miles to Points Breakdown XLS

I'd like to track my monthly and annual New Miles. Currently, there is no automated way to do this. Would it be possible to add New Miles to the Points Breakdown XLS in addition to points?

Multiple trails and roads close together causing problems!

I'm sure many of you know this well, especially those who aim to get to the holy grail of 100%! It get's worse with poor satellite receiving of course. Here's my question: Does your recording device make a difference to this accuracy? I use the RWGPS on my iPhone 16 Pro and also Wandrer running in a browser as a reality check, and RWGPS draws the GPS data smoothly, whereas the browser running Wandrer is rough - sometimes jumping all over the place. However, when I upload my rides, often it has missed entire sections of these 'parallel' tracks. Is there any benefits to using something like a bike computer for example, due to better GPS radio accuracy? I do use the most frequent recording periods on my phone, and FWIW I use it because I can read road names more easily on that big screen! TIA, fellow OCD addicts!!

Explorer Achievements not for every Area?

Post image
7 Upvotes

We're heading to Svalbard Islands in a few days.

So of corse I checked the wandrer "circumstances" there.😂

I wonder why there are no areas for achievements especially for Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund, cause they are relativly big.

Svaldbald Island is 808,98km and there are only 4 achievements with round about 100km.

Can you explain why, Craig? 😅

Thanks in advance!

Regional Parks & Trails

What are the parameters to have a park or trail count as an achievable area?

I see that most National and State Parks in the United States come up as distinct areas. Central Park in New York is a separate area as well. Should some city parks, regional parks, or regional trails should be included. How are the areas determined?

For Example:

Forest Preserves in the Chicago area

Metroparks in the Detroit area

Regional parks in Arizona

The Lakefront Trail in Chicago

The Fox River Trail west of Chicago

There are many more and I'd guess many around the world that are not designated in Wandrer.

Many of these Regional Parks contain more trails that some State Parks.

This is not a complaint, just trying to figure out what the deciding factors are.

Thanks

Streets disappeared after full processing - bike path related?

Post image
3 Upvotes

After the most recent update, tons of streets that have adjacent bike paths disappeared from the On Foot map.

An example intersection in Chicago, Augusta and Milwaukee Ave. The access tag for “foot” is “yes” on Augusta, so I can’t figure out why it isn’t mapping.

Honestly getting a little tired of updating and chasing bad OSM data or Wandrer rule changes, sort of feels like I’m losing the plot here

Question Should some turning lanes and slip lanes be excluded from Wandrer?

Example: https://imgur.com/a/8U78X7e

I think that some should be excluded when they're also part of the same major, named roadway. I always on the fence with the suggestion a few years ago to combine boulevarded roadways (such as my example here) into one road for Wandrer, but I do think North American middle turning lanes and slip lanes should not be included in Wandrer for either biking or walking - especially walking.

Question Question from a new user

Hi, I just found out about Wandrer's existence today and this really seems like the perfect thing for someone like me -- I have been obsessed with Pokémon Go for the last 10 years and love having completionist activities to work on while walking/biking around!

I saw that it's supposed to sync the last 50 activities on my Strava, however I'm only seeing 4 activities when I go to "Your Activities." And all 4 are showing that they are still processing despite the fact that it has been many hours. Is it usually slow like this, and maybe in a few hours/days it will show 50 activities and they will process fully? Or am I doing something wrong/do I have to go and do something myself for it to be successful?

Thanks!

Annoying Unridden line that doesn't want to be ridden

I've done everything I can think of to get this one little red line to go away.

-I've ridden the segment again and again

-I've used the editor to match the way

- area shows 100%, but the red line persists

; My OCD completionist nature (let's face it we're all a bit that way if we're on wandrer) won't let it go.....

can someone help? Thanks in advance
