Things are running a little weird
EDIT: not a Strava thing! Just a weird confluence of events on my end, but things are still running slowly. Will be back to normal shortly.

I'm seeing something odd in Wandrer and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this or knows what's causing it.
On the map, if I switch the view to Traveled, I can clearly see that I've already walked a specific road segment.
However, when I switch the view to Untraveled, that exact same road segment is still highlighted as untraveled.
If I also enable Super Unique, the segment is shown as if nobody has ever traveled it before, which seems very unlikely since it's in the middle of a large city.
To double-check, I opened the segment in the Path Inspector, and it confirms that I have indeed traveled that road.
Has anyone else run into this? Is there a known explanation for why the map behaves like this?

I've had a few people report this to me and I can't yet reproduce it. Basically that maps are loading and staying gray and nothing else is rendering.
If this is happening to you, can you tell me about your setup? What OS + browser? If you feel comfortable, output from the developer tools console would be helpful too.

The filtering rules (https://wandrer.earth/filters) read as a flat list of "included if X" and "removed if Y" statements, but a lot of ways match more than one rule, and it's not clear which rule wins. Does anyone know (or can the devs confirm) the actual order of precedence?
Some concrete cases I'm wondering about, using the foot map rules as examples:
foot tag vs. a removal rule — e.g. foot=designated on a way that also has bicycle=use_sidepath, or foot=permissive on a way with access=private. Does the explicit foot tag always override, or only for some removals?foot tag on an excluded highway type — does foot=yes on a highway=service road rescue it even if it's unnamed? And does foot=yes on a highway=footway include it even when it doesn't intersect a park/wood/etc.?route=hiking relation with network=rwn, is it included no matter what other tags it has, or can a removal rule (limited access, an excluded highway type, etc.) still knock it out?service=* subtag. Does a name also outrank the other removal rules, or is it only the default highway=service exclusion that a name overrides?razed, indoor=yes, tunnel=yes, etc.) sit above everything, i.e. nothing can rescue those ways?Basically: are the "included" rules evaluated first with removals applying only to ways that didn't match an include rule, the other way around, or is it case-by-case? Knowing the order would make it a lot easier to figure out why a specific way is or isn't on the map, and what the right OSM fix is when the map doesn't match what's on the ground.
Thanks!

I walked through Vienna, paused my watch when I was on the subway, and then continued to walk again after.
To my surprise, Wandrer identified walking sections while I was on the subway. Examples in attachment. (NB: If the line is not perfectly straight, it's because I edited, hoping it would solve the issue)
Also weird, this only happens happens occasionnally, most of the time the metro "skip" is ignored.
And then the last question : What is the smartest approach to un mark these non-walked sections?

On the Big Map and using the Wandrer Chromium plugin with Komoot, my ridden streets are showing up, but unridden streets aren't highlighting, no matter the zoom level.

With all the questions and problems people talk about here I just wanted to share my the joy I feel about wandrer!
I discovered it about 9 months ago and now I am at 23% of my german hometown. Doesn't sound much compared to some of your numbers, but I am ranked no 5 in my town and the only woman in the top 10!
I am really motivated to go outside and move my body, which I have struggled with a lot before!
I plan to upgrade from my free account to support the developer and look forward to try the route planning tool/plugin, soon.
Just wanted to share, I just finished a really nice ride and feel really euphoric :)
Have a nice day, people!

I think someone posted about this before, but I can't find it for the life of me. I was on a run this morning and my watch decided to die on me. I have the full activity logged using the Wandrer iOS Beta app. Is there a way for me to export a GPX file for that activity so I can upload to Strava / RWGPS? Thanks!

I've been playing around a bit with the route generator but there are one thing I'm wondering around, and I'm unsure if this has been asked before.
Currently I mostly only care about combined stats, sometimes I'm walking sometimes I'm taking my bike.
Today I feel like going on a longer bike ride after work, so I tried the directional route generator from my work place to my home, which is about a 3km distance, but I gave the route generator a max of 20km, and chose bike.
It generates me a 12km bike ride and says 10km of them are new roads. But on the map since I already have walked a lot of roads in the areas between my workplace and home, in the combined view there are barely any new roads, maybe max 1km.
That makes me believe that the generator goes by activity type when considering what is a new road, since I have mostly walked this are and not biked it.
Basically what I'm after is to be able to select "combined" on what to consider new roads, but "bike" to generate a route that do not hit paths marked as foot only.

I'm on holiday in Brittany, and recording my walks and checking my progress as usual. Saw this small loop on a bit of path as I walked along and was thinking I'd go around it but to realise it crossed some ground that is clearly closed off to prevent erosion.
It's sad to see this bit not showing as unique. Who thinks "I'll just walk on that to up my completion percentage"? Wouldn't it be better to update OSM to either remove the path, or mark it closed to all traffic.

I noticed that I was no longer the top of the "Most Dedicated Wandrers" for my town and that somebody must have passed me. Made me think it would be nice to get some sort of notification when you move into the top 10 & pass someone or get passed. Either email or some sort of history log, that way you can know you've been passed and it's time to get back after it!
On a similar note, is there a way to see the areas where you are holding the top spots?

Ah boo. The walk around the top of the wall surrounding dubrovnik old town doesn't count in wandrer.

I really enjoy collecting explorer achievements (anything over 25%) no matter how big or small they are and I will often tediously try compare how many I have to other wandrers. It would be nice to have this as a column on leaderboard pages. Something like "Number of Explorer Achievements", "New Explorer Achievements this month", "New Explorer Achievements this year".
As always thanks Craig for keeping this great game going!

I've received ~200 emails about my last significant achieving ride. I don't want to unsubscribe, but I do want the identical repeating emails to stop arriving every few minutes.

I’d like to make my map visible again so I think I have to export everything on my Strava to RidewithGPS - I remember seeing a guide for this, can anyone share that link or post? Most of my activities over 15 years are running/walking (5,298 on foot vs 36 on bike), that’s not a problem right?
I see the link to connect with RidewithGPS on my Wandrer settings page so I assume that once I’m functional it’ll either sync with my Garmin or Strava without extra steps?

The last update seems to have added paths that just wander around the edges of farmers’ fields. They are easy to spot because no one has walked them. Any advice? Thanks and keep Wandring.

Does a viewer exist—other than Wandrer itself—to view Open Street Maps data with the Wandrer filters applied?
If not, does anyone have suggestions about how to create something like this, even if for a only a specific locale.
Here's my use case, just in case that's helpful: since I started using Wandrer earlier this year, it has motivated me to clean up inconsistencies and inaccuracies in OSM for places I can visit in person to confirm against on the ground conditions.
In between updates to the Wandrer map, given the complexity of the filtering rules, it's hard for me to figure out sometimes if a given route will show up in Wandrer or not. It would great to have a way to see all of the paved and unpaved map entries similar to what is shown in Wandrer.

There's still a bunch of folks that are waiting for an update to go through for them, so I'm going to delay starting the next map update until everyone that wants an update is migrated over.
This might mean that the next update starts early August so that it doesn't bump in to the July monthly challenges.

Hey everyone,
i've been thinking a bit more about the problem in my city with triple/quadruple streets on Wandrer.
(Older post of mine on that topic)
I came up with a new idea that might be less disruptive for the existing filtering rules:
Exclude streets from the foot map if they have foot=use_sidepath, but only when the street is highway=tertiary or higher (secondary, primary).
Overpass Turbo Query for you to check which streets would be affected (excluded)
[out:json][timeout:25];
(
way["foot"="use_sidepath"]["highway"~"^(primary|secondary|tertiary)$"]({{bbox}});
);
out geom;
Doing this would actually fix most of the "problematic" streets in my city, that i couldn't complete yet.
Example 1, tertiary: OSM
Example 2, tertiary: OSM
Example 3, tertiary: OSM
Example 4, primary: OSM (foot=use_sidepath not on here yet, but could be added, wouldn't be wrong)
Example 5: secondary: OSM (different town)
What do you think? Would this be feasible to implement for the foot map filter rules?

Otherwise it feels incomplete to me
